Ben is by far the best person here to comment on how he has achieved what he has. I am not sure how he has handled the codes to turn the unit on and off, but I do not believe it is mapped to X. The reason for this is that I cannot press X on my pronto to turn the unit on, nor any other button except the "on" code. Is this not a discrete function? There is an option to allow any button press to turn the unit on, in my situation, I prefer leaving only the "on"code to do this.
Off as I said in my original post, is done via a macro sequence embedded in Ben's code. It works fine in video mode, whether disk or streaming, as Daniel said above, it just doesn't work in a game.
I apologise to anyone who was mislead by my statement, I was merely trying to answer a persons question.
