Discrete off is a bit trickier, but an "auto off" routine
has been included which will automatically play a macro
back (from within the remote) that sends the commands
necessary to turn the PS3 off. However, if the PS3 is
already off then the "auto off" will end up turning it
on. There was simply no way to improve this situation.
Has there been an improvement to The Others method on the "off" routine. Or does it still rely on the PS3 being at the proper spot in the menus?

Actually, you can improve the situation by using a control
system from RTI or URC that has power or video sensing.
That way you only issue the off command when the unit
is on.
Sensing doesn't help if you aren't in the proper location for the macro to operate. (unless it has been improved since this thread started) If your not in the proper location of the PS3's OS menus the off macro will continue to trip over itself. This has been discussed already earlier on within this thread.
