Serious question here. Have you guys noticed any extra latency between using an XP-8 vs an RP-6?

I have a whole house system I am building on the XP-8 and may have to switch it back to RP-6s.

Things to check...
1. Serial ramping of volume. I have always needed a .1 delay between repeats, on the RP-6, or I get a rocket effect. On the XP-8 I have removed the delay between repeats and it still seems slower then the RP6 with delays.

2. IR commands in a macro. If I have a channel macro I have always needed some delay between commands. In the software by design you have a .3 built in to it. On the RP6 I can often cut the delay down to .1 and still have things work. But on the XP-8 I took it to nothing and it still works.

3. General response time between a button press and a responce from a device. It seems there is a .3 delay or longer between when my cohorts are pressing a button and getting a response. Using a DVR is painfull... FF then when you see what you want you hit play and another almost second goes by before the DVR will return to play.

AppleTV seems to have slowed too.

I need some feed back ASAP as I am about to repopulate one XP-8 to 2 or 3 PR-6s.

Thanks guys...

Can you tell me one thing that if i m using any RF based device with remote control which is RF based.then how can we transfer that RF codes of that remote into RTI universal remote controller(to control that device through M2) since IR PRO can read only infrared codes.
In short i want to read RF codes of any RF based device, tell me what is the procedure to accomplish it.
waiting for reply,
greetings

In a word you can't.

Please don't reply in this thread. Start a new thread and we will teach you all about using serial or hunting down IR interfaces that you can use. Include what you are trying to control.

I need feedback about the question asked.

If you wouldn't mind, it would actually help if you edited/deleted the post.

Springs,

I am using a Lexicon RV-8. With the RP6 or XP8 with a .1 second delay, I am ramping volume and they seem about the same.

Can comment on number 2 yet.

On your final point, Yes, I have noticed using DTV HR21-700 that after you press button on remote that you do not get response on unit right away. Moving about in guide seems like forever where before it was instantaneous.

when I saw your earlier post I tried to see if there was a difference using a T2C and an XP-8 Vs RP-6: seems generally about the same

there has been a firmware push on the HR21's from DirecTV that has slowed them down: could that be the difference? (I noticed they all slowed down: even some controlled by an RP-1 in another system)

Switched to 2 RP6s and now ADA Volume Ramps are faster. Control of AppleTV is quick. RTI is looking at it.

Hmm so it appears that the XP8's might have some little problems that need to be addressed.
Who says you can't put 61" plasmas up on cantilever mounts using toggle bolts? <---Thanks Ernie ;)

I've had the slow RS232 volume ramping response on Integra stuff too, and it does seem there is a longer delay when issuing commands to when the XP8 actually sends codes out

The RP6 is faster.

Hopefully this is sometihng a firmware fix can solve

I haven't noticed anything with the first one I played with. I'll keep an eye on it.

I think I may have noticed these type of latencies...but not 100% sure.
I also have removed/reduced the delay when ramping volume on a Denon AVR using RS232.

I also had a macro that turned on some shared sources. I used a sense trigger event to start the macro. The trigger comes from 12V trigger on a B&K CT600. So, when any zone turned on, the shared sources turned on.

Problem was: Due to the XP8's ability to multitask... the triggered event was happening in the middle of my other macros (during programmed delays)... and making the programmed macros take longer.

I changed the order of things a bit, and "fixed" the issue. In fact, this is a FEATURE... but I just wasn't used to it, and took a few attempts to get good results. Overall, I love the sense event triggers and the ability to multitask.
...couple a thumb tacks and a stick of double sided tape should hold this baby up...

Trust me.. I liked the new abilities too. Sh$% I really liked not having to plug in at the rack all damn day.

But I am not using 1/2 the stuff I could have / would have. We had planned to do lights on the XP-8... now we have to get a Chronos bridge.

Control of some IR devices like DVRs was really slow. Apple TV was horrid.

In Serial, Volume commands would seem to take forever, then they would be cashed and issue for a period after you let go of the button. Making it really hard to hit the actually level you were looking for.

My Bosses were pissed and we pulled the XP-8 and I had to toss several days of programming and map it over 2 RP6s.

Since the swap, everything that I have remapped/coded is working like always. Fast reliable results. ALA... Why I started using RTI.

I hope the solution comes quick but its too late for this job.

I have several keypads left to do, and I am not going to flip back and forth on the processor again.

Thanks for sharing this info! I was ready to pull the trigger on an XP8 for a design I'm spec'ing now, and this has caused me to wait for a bit longer.

Just an update...

The system is 90% skinned.
2 K4s
2 T3s
4 T2Cs
2 RP-6s
Chronos Time Bridge
etc etc

Now its up to me to get all the code together that actually makes it do something.

Control is fast and rock solid as usual. Its a bit harder as I have to sit 5 feet from the rack and keep loading the RP-6s. But they are working.
Volume commands are quick source selection is spot on. Since I have 2 processors to work with macros come out fast as I can start both processors at once.

And the XP8 is sitting in a box staring back at me while I work.

RTI has looked over my file and I was really hoping that I had done something wrong and that they would say... "HEY IDIOT... you codded all this wrong. Here is how you do it right."

They looked at the file and said they are not seeing the latency. Why am I always the lucky one?

I can confirm the latency especially with the Apple TV. It is painful to operate! The DirecTV does seem a bit more sluggish. I love all of the connectivity for complex systems but the RP6 does seem more solid at this point.

I just had a small revelation, as I sit here at 1:50 in the morning!

When I installed the XP8 in our store, I noticed something strange with the 232 volume commands on our VAUX unit. If I just put the command in the macro, it did something similar to what you guys are talking about (slow to respond, then races to catch up). If I put the command in the macro with the "repeat steps" command, it works fine. I can't say I noticed a difference from RP6 to XP8 because I had the VAUX running IR with the RP6.

Is it possible that it's just how your putting the string on the button? Rather than dragging and dropping the command onto the button, try putting it IN a macro, on the button. Try the above mentioned volume thing as well, see if it makes a difference.

I'm sorry if none of the above makes any sense... I'm laying awake, stressed out.
