Bottom line: If this piece comes out next week, next month, or next quarter it will make a very small if any impact. I am neither excited nor anticipating a chance in plans for this unit. I would rather save the expectation for end of 2008 when two way is hopefully in full throttle.

Spoke to someone form RTI yesterday and he said they are sitting in the warehouse ready to ship, but there is a software issue that is holding the release. He hoped it would be ready by the end of the week.

As vbova said, this isn't going to be a huge change. Basically the amount of outputs, relays and the clock for now.

as is the I/O ports for event triggers.

place a sensor on the dvd or vcr so when its powered up the rest of the system powers up with it
There's no worse feeling than that millisecond you're sure you are going to die after leaning your chair back a little too far.

I wish all manufacturers would hold back on shipping until the product works!!!

Still, I have to thnk this is a huge disapoint for RTI. Not only are they late to the party with two way and or Zig, but they failed to get this out there in 2007. By the time this unit comes out, people get up to speed, then the new remote equipment and then 2-way, it is going to be 2009. I have customers now who need a more powerful system than what RTI has to offer. Some of the customers are not stupid, do their own research and are in these forums as well. There are a few other options in RTI's price range that offer 2-way/Zigbee communication and are moving quickly to the next phase. This is not meant to rush RTI in any way or imply that they are not moving fast enough. But I have to think that market share is important and it seems as though the product world is expanding , not shrinking, so if RTI is going to remain competitive and mantain market share this stuff has to be moved along or explained to the CI's better in regard to delays, problems and features. I want to stay loyal to this brand, but I need to stay loyal to my customers needs. If at least had an XP-8 in a showroom right before xmas I would have a much easier time convicing customers to hold off and wait, but I can't figure out when this stuff will surface. Plus, Superbowl time is a great time for at least my business, so not having any bearing on this hurts.

Welcome to the "First Quarter" of '08.....

I only have 1 XP-8 coming when available, just for bench testing in the office and some testing out in the feild.

I have incorporated the XP-8 technology and logic into a few systems that have been finished, but mainly for the 2-way, so I won't be jumping up and down for a while to come!

Now lets see how accurate all the "guesstimates" are!

I have three that were due in for X-mass deadlines. I can't even begin to tell you how pissed I am ar RTI. I know it's my fault for specinig vaporware, but come on, this thing is a YEAR late, and we are still getting this "2 weeks" bullshit.

I have heavily invested in RTI, and have at least $20k of product already sold, but I'm really considering calling Crestron.

Yeah, specing vaporware is definately a bigger sin than announcing a product that you can't fully bring to market for what is going to be 4 years from the announcement????????

C'mon, we have a right to be frustrated, to make it worst this isn't a one time problem for that company.

I don't think anyone is "mad" at RTI. The fact remains that customers are knowledgable these days, know what they want, do their research through thier friends or associates who have systems in their homes, and know what is available on the market. Problem 2 - I am not a Crestron dealer, like RTI and want to remain loyal to their products and services. I think we all do otherwise we wouldnt be fustrated with the delay - and I think it's fair to call it a delay - when other companies I don't want to mention rolled out 2-way with little delay or glitch. Furthermore, there is definately a communication (or lack thereof) on the market cocerning what he said she said about availablity and timing. The truth is that I can't afford to devote resources to Crestron right now although I won't argue that it might be a wise investment, and even if I did by the time that was in full gear the XP8 might be a memory and hopefully a good one. What do I tell my customers who want feedback even simple feedback? I remember telling a customer in the spring of 07 to wait until 3rd or 4th quarter for RTI rather than buying into a ridiculosly expensive system he wanted from another dealer. I wasn't looking at my bottom line - I was trying to keep this guy (who was not rich by any stretch) to not get a system that was complete overkill for what his family needed. He recently called me and I had to tell him I had no estimate for when this processor was rolling out - let alone 2-way which will be another phase. Not good.

I agree that this subject is futile and should be put off until any real news comes out of this company.

What do you want them to do? You know they have a history of announcing things before they're ready. If they had released the thing full of bugs everyone would be pissed because they can't get it to work, have to make numerous service calls, etc. You can't have it both ways. RTI will release things when they release them, for you to be specing things into jobs before they're released/shipping is your own fault, not RTI's.

If you're unhappy with RTI then you should learn about those other products in the market that meet your needs. If you want to stay loyal, then deal with it, but this is business and loyalty only gets you so far.
