I, too purchased the Sony. A few days later I purchased the Home Theater SL-9000. The Sony is going back. The ONLY reason to have an LCD remote is for flexibility from component to component. The Sony falls way short there. I filled up every available key on the DVD component and still didn't have all of my functions available, not to mention that I had to program some things onto keys that made absolutely no sense. The kicker is that my DVD is a Sony!!

The unit's too big, you can't read the screen without the backlight. The least Sony could have done is have the backlight come on automatically when any key is pressed, since you have to use it.

For my money, and the same $100, I would highly recommend the SL-9000 over the Sony. Especially if you have a DISH network system, since the SL-9000 has codes built in for Echostar, and the buttons actually match the DISH receiver.

Funny..How People want something ($400.00 to $500.00 Prontos' with chargers..) for "Nothing" ($110.00 to $179.00 Sony's..)..First and Foremost.."If You Want a Pronto, Then Buy A Pronto.." If you want the Latest & Greatest Then its the one..Hey And don't forget the Battery Charger while your at it..and after you Drop $400.00 to $500.00 for the unit plus the Charger, you sit back and think about how much Money you just W-A-I-S-T-E-D... On a Remote! Come'on!! get real!!!.. The "Goal" here is to take 6 to 8 Remotes down to "1"..and the Sony does this easy..There are no Memory Problems, No Light/Display Problems,No size Problems.. It holds 95% of all the keys that you are "Really" going to use on a Daily Basis.. and the One or Two that you might have to assign to other keys are not that hard to Remember for a Reasonably Intellegent Person.. One word of warning: Buy Online, You Take Your Chances.. Go to the Good Guys, Pay List, Get A "FACTORY FRESH UNIT" (Read into that what you will...) And you "WILL BE SATISFIED" with this unit...Battery Problems..Memory Problems..Hmm?..Eh? Can anyone say: "Online Units".....

For the people asking if it can control their whole system. I suggest you purchase it and try it for yourself. Most of you will be more than satisfied.

Taking into consideration, having to program some keys and the size of the remote being a bit bigger than the original.

Also, what more do you want for $99USD ??? You get what you pay for, I guess. But in this case, you cant go wrong for less than a Hundred bucks.

This actually sells for $299AUD in Australia for the PAL version, which has nothing to do with video format. The NTSC version (US) retails for ($99USD) $155AUD from computability.com which would have to be one of the best on-line retailers, super service and fassssst response and delivery. Thanks Pat Benedict !!

Only difference with NTSC and PAL version is Teletext added and a separate DSP, otherwise might aswell buy the NTSC version from computability.com for $99.

To sum it up, - Yes it will control most of your gear, dont expect the remote to be as small as the original. Because you have to be able to press buttons on the LCD. A bit of programming on some keys that are specific on your original remote. Keep in mind that you didn't pay $399USD or greater.

For $99, Sony LCD pad and a great remote that will control your average household remotes plus more ... what more do you want =) ???

he Sony sucks!! The SL-9000 is a much better unit for the money. Brian, the Sony does a lousy job of controlling the 850. The SL-9000 will do it much better. I know, I have the 850.

The Sony appears to be "sexy" with its LCD screen. But it's another case of form over function. What's the use of having an LCD readout if it's not customizable and the non-customizable buttons are inadequate for your needs, and don't match the needed labels, anyway.

Bill Clinton, the keys that you don't use very often are exactly the ones that you need to make sense!!!

The display on the Sony sucks. The functionality of the Sony sucks. The size of the Sony sucks. Do yourself a favor. If you're in the $100 price range, buy the Home Theater SL-9000. If you want to spend more money than that, buy the Pronto.

Sony screwed up on this one. LCD buttons are NOT customizable and the predesigned selection of buttons doesn't cover the latest devices, not even for their own equipment. The thing is too BIG and can't be handled by one hand. The display is hard to read and the back light needs to be on all the time. Here's my ultimate test...I still can't put my array of six standalone remotes away, I am still picking them up. Just order a Phillips Pronto, no more probems, none.

all i want to know is why everyone is putting down this remote. if you were expecting more out of it you are a moron. if you would have just read the specifications for the remote, you may have saved yourself money. as for reassining important keys to buttons that make no sense, if you have half a brain you could memerize each button in 1 or 2 days. but just remember the saying " you get what you pay for" if you want a cheaper and simpler remote to use then buy the sony, but if your looking for a remote that not only does whatever you want plus wipes your ass for a couple hundred bucks more, then buy the pronto i'm just sick of whiny asses crying about there remote not changing labels or only 3 macros

I BOUGHT MY REMOTE YESTERDAY,AND I HAVE PROGRAMMED ALL MY COMPONENTS INTO IT. MY ONLY PROBLEM IS THAT THE SONY TV WILL NOT TURN OFF WITH THE POWER BUTTON AND I CANNOT CONTROL THE VOLUME WITH THE REMOTE.
ALSO, WHAT BUTTON WOULD I USE TO PROGRAM MY SATELLITE?
ANY HELP ANYONE CAN GIVE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED AS MY NEXT STEP WILL BE TO CALL SONY.
THANK ALL.

Give me a break! It is all about VALUE. For the price, the Sony is a damn fine remote that does just about everthing you could want. The mere fact that all of us have 6 remotes for our home theater in the first place should be an indication that we are all on the edge of decadence anyhow. Can you really feel good about spending more than $100 on a REMOTE CONTROL? Let's keep things in perspective here...

One Month Later.... Hey guess what? It still works.. and works "DAMN WELL"... I now have 2 systems plugged into this unit, I have my LED staying on for the full 90 seconds, unit on "Constantly" and this thing is used 24/7 and I have not even had to replace the batteries yet! To say I am "Happy" is an Understatment, And I payed "List" for the unit... ( Don't believe in shopping online, to much nightmare/grey market/refurbished audio equipment out there for me..) if you can remember your phone number.. Then you can remember the hand full of keys you may have to re-program to cover 100% of your old remotes, Anyone "On The Fence" with purchasing this unit, Buy it you won't be sorry...and take the Hundreds you save over buying a Pronto, and get yourself some DVD's...

I just received my av2000 this week and I love it!
I couldn't believe how simple it was to program. It does exactly what I wanted, 6 remotes down to 1! Sure the light button is a little inconvenient, but big deal!

Anyone know anything about programming your lighting into this remote? On/Off/Dimmer etc. How much? and where can I get some information on this? Is it difficult to install?

I recently bought the 2000 and it does everything I could want. My system is made up of various components, a Pioneer television, Panasonic S-VHS recorder, JVC VHS recorder, Sony HI-8 mm recorder, Sony Carosel CD player, Sony MD recorcder, Pioneer ld/dvd player, and a Pioneer receiver. Everything works perfect, my only wish is that you could edit the text on the lcd buttons.
