I picked up a Philips 32PF5321D 32" at Costco the other
day. (I tried the 37" Viewsonic at Costco, but it wouldn't
pull in the QAM channels from Rogers, and the picture
left much to be desired.)

The Philips picture is excellent and I get all the Rogers
unscrambled channels. The "on demand" channels are crazy
-- on Saturday night I piggybacked onto someone who was
watching Syriana. A couple times they paused the playback
and rewound it a few minutes.

I get most of the channels that you've listed, Daniel
- but a few aren't coming in. Particularly the Food Network
on 114.2206. Any idea why I'd get most, but not all these
channels?

After the Philips does the channel scan, it then takes
about 20 minutes to "sort" the 400+ channels. Then when
I flip through the channels it's found, I see channels
114.2201, 114.2202, 114.2203 etc, but there's no picture
on any of these.

If I try rescanning for digital channels, sometimes the
channel listing changes and the 114.xxxx channels disappear
altogether.

billybobcdn - I have a 42" LG LCD tv with a built in tuner as well. When i autoscan (EZ-scan) i get a bunch of blank digital channels as well. The blank ones for me (and maybe for u too) are scrambled channels. The ez-scan adds them to my channel listing, and when i go to them, a bubble floats around saying scrambled...sometimes i get a bubble saying no signal, but more aften than not they are scrambled. If i change to these channels then away then back, they will have been removed from my list (i.e. go up then down then up again) which is very convenient b/c i cant view them anyways. Hope this helps.

Daniel - Since Rogers has changed their lineup, i no longer see sportnet on 78.50-78.52 like you have in your list. I beleive the only one i still get is on 78.52. Do they all still work on ur TV? I am in woodbridge.

Yes, those indeed seem to be gone. This may be the beginning of their phase out of unencrypted channels.

I'm in central Etobicoke (GTA) and still getting 78.51 and 78.52. Only 78.5 appears to be gone. (Although, as you'll see below, I now get them on 74.x instead of 78.x.)

Actually I've noticed quite a few changes from the master list posted elsewhere on this site. There have been some changes in channel numbers, some stations are gone, and some new ones have been added. Here are the changes I've noticed.

(I've only listed channels where there are changes from the master list. The first number is where I'm currently receiving the channel, the second number is what is listed on the master channel list on this site. A dash in the first column indicates that I can no longer receive this channel; a dash in the second column indicates that this is a NEW channel.)

66.2 67.2 Network My Network TV (WNYO Buffalo)
71.121 72.121 Network CTV/CKY (CJAY Winnipeg)

---- 78.50 Sports Sportsnet East
74.51 78.51 Sports Sportsnet West
74.52 78.52 Sports Sportsnet Pacific
74.53 78.53 Network CBC (CBUT Vancouver)
74.58 78.58 Network CBC (CBNT St. John's)

83.77 ------ ???? ????

64.1 96.1 Radio CBLA 99.1 FM (CBC Radio One Toronto)
....through....
64.29 96.29 Radio CICX 105.9 FM (JACK FM, Orillia)

110.1107 ----- News CNN
---- 114.2206 Learning Food Network
115.2301 ----- Multicul. OMNI2

So there are a few channel changes in the 60s and 70s, the addition of an unknown channel at 83.77, a change of all the radio channels from 96.x to 64.x, the deletion of the Food Network, and the addition of CNN and OMNI2.

At least that's my experience...

I think they're in the middle of a major re-shuffle. I'll do a rescan here on Saturday.

Thanks billybobcdn, I thought it was just on my end that some of the channels in Daniels list weren't working properly. Just a note on the sportsnet timeshifting channels (78.50 and 78.51). On my end they are actaully still there, but are SCRAMBLED! I dont get why Rogers has deceided to scramble these channels now...When i go home tonight i will try the new channels that billybobcdn has added to see if those work. None of the radio channels 96.x work or even have a signal but they could have been moved to the 64.x like you have pointed out, i will try those too.

Question: Are any of the digital channels being received at anything higher than 480i?

Daniel - Thanks for taking the time if/when you update the master list.

Same here with 75.50 and 78.51 (my TV remaps them down to 75.01 and 75.02). They both say scarmabled on SPortsnet West and Pacific, but East is still working on the digital side (and Ontario is analog)...

I did a scan tonight here in Markham and there was basically no difference over what's published save for the two missing Sportsnet channels.

Interesting that Rogers Etobicoke is different than Rogers Markham...

Ya thats weird that rogers is so different in such close locations. My channels used to be the exact same as Daniel's but no longer. Not even the same as billybobcdn either as i dont get a signal where he says the radio channels are located (64.x) or the other set of sportsnet channels (74.5x). I'm in woodbridge, what rogers location am i considered?

They might not be that different for long.

Why - Do you think they are still changing things around and eventually we'll all end up with the same again? I hope they unscramble all those channels that i had before. Its upsetting to have them, and to lose them.

I have a couple questions about receiving these unscrambled digital channels (it's primarily for Daniel Tonks, but anyone who can answer them is welcome to). At the end of February I cancelled my Rogers cable tv service, but kept my Rogers internet service. When I cancelled, I asked whether I would be able to give away my digital cable box to someone else and was told they would disconnect it from my account after March 1st so that anyone could use it. I was also told I would probably have analog cable for a few weeks before someone came out to disconnect it. Since it was there, I made good use of the analog cable feed until it disappeared last Thursday, but I then noticed my digital cable box was still able to pick up all the unscrambled channels you describe in this thread. Given all this, I have two questions:

1. Am I going to be able to pick up these channels for as long as I have cable internet service through Rogers?

2. Is my cable box going to call home to Rogers to let them know I'm still able to access these channels? (and if so, can I stop this?)

Thanks in advance!

If you're not getting analog stations and those are still coming in... I'd say yes. But Rogers could change the filter on your line to something more "effective" later, though.

I don't have the answer to this. But the boxes DO communicate with Rogers so it might appear on some list as "still active" which may or may not raise any red flags.

Thanks for the reply. I take it that means people usually don't have access to unencrypted digital cable whenever they have high speed. I guess if Rogers filters me I'll just have to do what I planned to in the first place when I cancelled - use an antenna. :)
