meh I hate being a burden on these guys...it is a wonderful remote and quite the step up from my Sony remote commander 3000 series...but this button thing is definitely driving me insane. I also called Magnolia and they offered to exchange it for a remote that was prob sitting in their warehouse since 2002 knowing my luck...I'll call on Monday I suppose.

I've reset my remote several times to factory...recalibrated...etc...and it still activates buttons 2 and sometimes 3 "rows" higher and sometimes 1 column over...I discussed my button pressing technique with URC and i tried both the finger tip and then "soft part of my finger" and I basically have to aim at the bottom of each button and it still doesnt work properly..

Swapping my remote out for one with a newer O/S...hopefully that will remedy the problem. Thanks for all your help I will keep you guys updated.

I took dinom's advice and contacted Joe at URC. He is going to replace my unit. I'll be sending mine in first thing tomorrow morning and should get my replacement shortly. It was becoming very annoying with having to push the button I needed a few times before it would activate the correct key.

question...did you guys ever notice that the volume button has to be depressed a certain way (the hard button) in order to get the volume to work...its weird because mine does that and it pisses me off...i find myself hitting the volume button several times...the RF station gets the signal cause i watch it flash yet no volume control...i am not using IR i am using the mini jack to the receiver and every other function works but I have trouble with my 2 hard volume buttons.

-Mike

sending my remote out tomorrow also...got off the phone with Joe around 445 and I'd never make it to the post office in time (think im gonna do UPS anyways)

MJE, I don't notice that about the volume keys. Did you learn the code or was it in the database? I also use a direct connect to my Onkyo receiver's IR jack - no problems.

Let us know how you both make out with your replacement units. If it's anything like my new one, it will be much better, but not perfect. Again, on mine, the upper left portion of the screen now has trouble, triggering buttons "below" the one pressed (see my video above). I still haven't heard back from URC since I sent them a copy of the video.

The problem on my unit was mainly in the upper right quadrant of the key pad screen and occasionally in the upper middle. I'll post an update after I get the replacment. Thanks again Dino for all the help and who to contact.

I have not recieved my replacement yet. I got a confirmation on the unit I shipped back but haven't received anything back. I'm going to call on Monday if I don't hear anything.

I found quite a while ago that using your fingernail was a real easy way to apply enough pressure (PSI) to make a remote respond, and it only took a little playing to learn how to do it accurately.

There SURE is a problem here, but might I suggest you use your fingernail? When I started programming touch screen remotes, I was a bit paranoid about breaking them, and I realized that if you use the pad of your finger, you have to push harder than if you use a smaller area, and the fingernail is right there ready to use for most of us!

I kind of do a backhand, almost palm up, and it is never awkward. Of course, I'm left-handed, so my scale of what is awkward is probably a bit more robust than yours!

You're very compassionate to feel that way, but these guys know that problems will occur every once in a while, and they know it is their job to sort them out and get the right thing to happen. In fact, let me go out on a pretty stout limb and say they are dedicated to making it right! They probably don't sound upset when they are on the phone with you, but if they do, be assured they are upset with the problem, not the messenger. You have been totally patient and clear, the kind of behavior that keeps these guys from tearing out their hair when something dumb like this creeps into a product!
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

But I keep my fingernails cut very short. What am I supposed to do now? Grow a long index fingernail (like a guitar player) just so I can press buttons on my remote ;-)

I just got back from vacation, and will be calling URC shortly to see if they have any updates on the touchscreen issue.

I just spoke with Joe over at URC and he will be sending me a replacement unit within the next day or two.

dino,
You might try and get some Lee press on nails. Get the ones about 2'' long. Those should do the trick.

I called last week and Joe advised me the software guys could not figure out the problem. I thought he was going to send me my unit back and then replace it with a new one once they figured out the issue, but I still don't have a remote (old or new). I'm starting to get a little upset as its getting close to a month that I've been without a remote.
