That's insane! If you have the same issue that I had, they know very well there is an problem with the software related to the touchscreen. They may not know right now how to fix it 100%, but they can make it much better (with a new OS update). You should demand a new unit that will at least make it tolerable until a permanent fix is released.

Eric Johnson told me the engineers are working on a 100% fix right now, but it will take some time to get it right.

I had the same problem with a unit I purchased in February. This was my second mx-3000 - with the first one I have never had this problem. I returned my second one and thought I would wait until I heard things were fixed to replace it.

I'm surprised that there has not been others that have run into this. Perhaps it's only a few isolated units and we were the lucky ones.

No, not an isolated incident at all, whole batches of these have this issue (it's a combination software/hardware).

I am also surprised that there are not more people that report this issue. Maybe the problem units just haven't trickled down to the masses yet, or more likely most people just don't notice the problem. They may not notice it because of the way they press the screen (using fingernails, for example) or maybe the problem presents itself during use and the user just assumes he pressed a near bye button, etc.

Who knows? It would be great if Eric could chime in here and let us know when the real fix may be ready. I've been waiting almost 6 months for this. Until this is 100% reliable, I just can't fully enjoy using my MX-3000.

I can't even enjoy using my remote since I don't have it. I'm gonna call next week to get a status. That will have give them 2 weeks since my last call to figure out what they want to do.

Just as I say something, Jloe at URC called me to advise he is sending me a new replacement unit that should be better than my original. He has to send the original to the manufacturing plant for the engineers to look at. Once the problem has been fixed, he will then send me a new unit.

I can live with that for now.

I found this thread after searching on this problem and finding that mine is not a fluke.

I guess I should address this to Eric - who do I contact at URC to see about getting this fixed? I am going on my third replacement so far, and none of them have fixed it. I purchased my MX-3000 as part of a complete custome Home Theater from a local custom shop about 9 months ago.

Is there a particular version of OS and firmware that addresses this?

Thanks,

Phil

metaldog99,

Try calling Joe Spinelli at URC at 914-835-4484 x320. He is aware of the problem and they are working on it. He is sending me a newer unit for now and once they have a complete fix, he will send me thier newest updated version. The more people that contact them about it, the more they are aware of the issue.

Wow, at lot more folks are coming forward now. I'm sorry you have the issue too, metaldog99, but as maxfli100 says, contact Joe at URC and report it to him. He's the man that will set you up.

Again, URC has a temporary fix that helps like 75%, but it's not perfect. I have been living with this temp. version for about 4 months, and although better, still fires random buttons at times and still ruins the experience for me.

Eric says they are working hard at a total fix, and I will get an updated unit as soon as that happens.

Good luck, and let us know how you make out.

Thanks for the info. I contacted my installer the same time I found this thread, and they showed up yesterday at my house with a replacement. Turns out the replacement has an older OS version (June 2005 vs Sept 2005), but the same firmware (2.22.3.51222). I will see how this one behaves and report back.

Thanks again for the quick replies.

You may be OK. Sometime between April 2005 and September 2005 is when the "problem" was introduced.

Please let us know how you manke out.

Oh lovely. I just found this thread and have exactly the same issue. :(

Any idea whether an announcement will be made here whenever URC releases the "100%" fix mentioned above? I really like the MX-3000 but if this is not a solve-able issue I'm going to have to get rid of it and buy a hard-button remote like the MX-950.

If Eric doesn't mind me quoting him, he sent me an email yesterday with the following about the current situation:

"We have made improvements, and we will make more improvements. It is a difficult issue, with a long time line to resolve, because of its complexity."

So, it doesn't sound like a 100% solution is right around the corner, but I'm sure Eric could shed more light on this. The improvements he is talking about require that you send your remote back to URC for an update or replacement, as the OS cannot be updated remotely.

Also, Scott, could you post your OS build date (press and hold MAIN)? That would give us an idea of whether you have the "really bad" version, or the one that's 75% better.

Just a bump on this to see if anyone that received a replacement unit is having better luck.

I'll chime in.

I've been extremely happy with my replacement. The strange thing is I did notice the problem every now and then with the new unit, but not nearly as much as before. Here's the kicker, I bought one of the templates from Proremotes and I don't think I've ever seen the problem again. I've played around with keypad screens for a couple different components and I cannot seem to replicate the problem anymore. Could it be an issue with the included template software? Has anybody else tried a different template and still have issues?
