I too also got the "This problem must be resolved before you can update the remote." stuff.

That message showed up right after adding/reconfigging a device or two. I ended up having to delete my TV and PVR and basically starting over with my Activities.

Another thread mentioned Logitech was "feverishly" working on a firmware update - so I guess we just keep plugging our remotes into the computer for awhile!

I got a big problem....with my new 890...any suggestions

Tried to instll but the remote now says configuration corrupted.

When i bring up Windows with the device on the usb, I get "fatal exception caugh executing JVM runtime: couldnt open key"

I wont even bring up the fact that i had a hard time rebooting my computer after this....really quite a disaster !

Forgot to tell you guys... tech support did email me back.

Now remember that I joked about how I removed the RF extender and was using the remote as a really expensive 880... well catch this...

"Dear paul,

Thank you for your recent inquiry about your Harmony Remote

I have checked you account and the RF extender has not been added as an RF device in the account. Please follow the steps below to add the RF extender to the account so you can control the devices connected to the RF extender.
(continues with instructions)...
"

Aww crap...!!!!
So I emailed him back... haven't heard yet...

BTW: The unit is now set up to perfection as an 880. But when I add the RF unit, I now get that Java error every time too (which I know I can fix by removing the DVD player from the setup). I'm not going to bother until I hear from them that they know what can fix the 'connect' problem.

Update:... I found the email for a head honcho at Harmony and told them how disappointed we were with the stability/readiness of the 890 and the email tech support (really slow turnaround compared to usual). I have to make a decision on whether to return this puppy soon, so wanted to see if they were awake and cared. I think they do... these people seem to stand behind their products.

Dear Paul -

Thank you for your kind words on your previous Logitech experiences. As
for our new 890, I do apologize for your less than perfect experience and I
have asked our head of Customer Service () to get back with you
and your specific situation. I do know that we have updated several
firmware and software bugs within the last week on the 890 and yes "we are
on it"!! I am confident that this product will deliver the experience you
have waited for and appreciate your support of our Harmony line as well as
Logitech products in the future.

Best Regards,

The Java error goes away if you only select 5 or less devices in "RF". Hopefully, they'll fix this soon.

on thursday night they posted new firmware for the remote (now 4.4) and also the extender (1.4). The issue where the remote won't connect with the extender is fixed.

The java errors when you have more than 4 devices being controlled by RF is still a problem. (To overcome this temporarily set device(s) you rarely use to being controlled by IR).

Their tech support out of Toronto is excellent (maybe you need to get past the first level folks).

The tech made me do some extreme things to update the firmware... if you have the connect problem and you can't resolve it by regular fw updating let me know here and I'll post the full instructions.

I've been able to connect to the extender but loose connection every couple of days. I have to go into the Zwave set up menu and add the extender to getthings working again. Any idea if this fixes this sporatic lose of connection?

ok rudolpht... here goes...

update the RF extender:
-----------------------------
1) unplug the extender power.
2) while pressing and holding down connect plug the extender into the PC with the usb cable... hold connect pressed down for 30 seconds.
3) go in the software ... support-> update firmware. (this took the firmware to v1.4 for me)
4) when all is done, just click on 'home' on the software, rather than continuing the flow.

update the fw on the remote:
-----------------------------------
1) take the batteries out of the remote and leave them out (tip: to get the cover off press the thumb-depression in before sliding the cover off).
2) press and hold the 'off' button and plug the usb cable in and connect to pc. After about 5 secs. you'll see the remote go into 'safe mode'. Release the off button.
3) in the software, go into support->update firmware. This fw upgrade took mine to 4.4.
4) when all is said and done, replace the batteries.

almost done:
----------------
1) update the rf-extender and remote as usual (but before you do the post-update 'connecting'...)
2) plug the rf extender into the USB port again
3) press 'add' on the remote to add the extender
4) hold the remote about 6 inches from the extender and press 'connect' on the extender for 1 second.

You should be good now.

The tech did suggest that if you're having problems connecting in the future, you can also simply remove the battery and replace it. (And this may also be required the first time after this upgrade).

Urchin: I mentioned your recurring disconnect problem... if it still happens after this fw upgrade... then they want you to call them 1-866-826-5722.

I was able to update my fw using Logitech's normal method, afterwords, my remote performaned erratically....wouldn't change inputs on AV Receiver, had to keep pressing vol. up or down rather than just holding down the button. Items that previously worked fine under fw 4.3.

Then, I reinstalled the fw on both extender and remote using your suggested method and now everything WORKS PERFECTLY!!! I can live with the 4 device max on RF for the time being.

THANKS!!!!
