I've tried all the suggestions on this forum and I still can't get the 890 to recognize the RF extender. It will recognize it once, then ask to connect again and it then always fails.

I do have quite a few RF products in the house. Routers, 5.8 ghz phones and Sonos but this has never caused problems before. Any ideas?

you need to hold on to the connect button on the RF extender for a couple of seconds, until the red status light turns on, when trying to connect

I don't have any problems getting it to connect to the RF extender, but after using the remote for awhile it stops sending signals to the extender. I then have to go into the System Options on the remote and "re-connect" to the extender. The strange thing is that it doesn't matter if I press "connect" on the RF extender or not when this happens. The remote will re-establish its connection just by going into the system options on the remote. Seems to be a problem with the remote itself and not the extender. It happens after about hitting 30-40 commands on the remote and doesn't seem to be related to a specific command. Anyone else experiencing this?

same thing happens to me. And nope, Jabronie, sadly your trick doesn't work.
:(

I have an email support request in to them, but no reply.

(unrelated question: I can't see how to 'subscribe' to threads and have this forum send you email notifications, like some other forums do.. does that feature not exist here?)

cheers

paulv - Pls post what you hear from tech support.

Jabronie - Yes...tried holding until steady red. It will occassionally work on the first go round, but on the second it never finds the device. Thanks -John

Not a real solution...but it might make life a little easier...

I have the same issue with my 890 - the RF is dropped at random it seems...I simply go into ZWave Setup and "Remove Device" - only do not remove the device - just "Cancel"...Viola...I'm back in business.

Until it drops out again...

The wife is getting worried!

john... 2 days and counting and no response...

Can't wait to go home and try cfishers trick...

I thought Zwave was some future standard for RF communication (a bit analogous to X10 over powerlines).... is it also actually the protocol that the remote and the extender use to talk to eachother? Seems to make sense. I had ended up on the Zwave screen a few times (after the connect failures), but didn't know what to do with it...

Ugh... no luck.
And I just re-read the previous posts... I don't have the same problem as some of you... I dream of your problem (i.e. it fails after 40 commands)... I can't get it to connect in the first place.

And now I just did the 'update' process again (attempt # 637) and got Java errors...

I did see a ray of hope... [Link: remotecentral.com]
just not sure I can wait two weeks.... (hitting the end of the return policy window)

Arrrgh....

"This problem must be resolved before you can update the remote.

Java Error -- Context: ConfiguratorName=CD Jukebox, ConfiguratorName=AV Receiver, ConfiguratorName=Monitor, ConfiguratorName=Light Controller, ConfiguratorName=DVD, ConfiguratorName=Laptop -- 1 Parameters: java.lang.NullPointerException"

So now what?.... I think I'm going to have to talk to a human tomorrow...

Thanks -John

what do you mean first go round? it should only be a one step process. you let go of the connect button when the light turns red, right? the other thing you can try is going through the "remove device" sequence before trying to connect

cfisher... thanx for the tip... i too lose my connection about once a day and it was a pain in the ass having to get off the couch to push the connect buttion on the rf extender

paulv... you're using the latest version of the desktop software (6.2.2) right? i used to get weird errors like that whenever i tried to use the website to update the remote rather than the desktop software

jabronie - Interesting. My remote always askes me to connect again after the first time it finds the device. Yours only asks once? Weird.

jabronie... yes I'm using the client. Actually I uninstalled and reinstalled it for grins and now its 6.2.3. The RF extender updates ok, but the remote gets...

This problem must be resolved before you can update the remote.

Java Error -- Context: ConfiguratorName=CD Jukebox, ConfiguratorName=AV Receiver, ConfiguratorName=Monitor, ConfiguratorName=Light Controller, ConfiguratorName=DVD -- 1 Parameters: java.lang.NullPointerException

not that anyone cares... but here is the next installment of the saga...

reupgraded the firmware, software now at 6.2.3. created a totally new login with just my tv and receiver in the profile ....

now I don't get the java error
but I still can't connect the remote to the extender....

sigh... oh ... 4 days and counting and still no response from Discord technical support.

Hi guys.

I got a similar Java error. I deleted a device that I had just changed and that fixed it. It's definately a configuration problem. If you can't isolate the problem the best way is to just start from scratch :( as I see that you've done.
