The "Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea company" called their food markets "A&P foods".
When I was a kid I remember my mother telling my father she had to go to the "Ay and pee".
I didn't know where the "Ay" was, but I knew that it must be far away because my father would sigh and say "I'll go warm up the car".

I heard that Stop 'n' Shop was going to merge with A & P. The new name would be "Stop 'n' P".

Did you know my brother-in-law? Every time we'd drive by an A & P he would spout out "Let's goto the A & Pee". Then he'd smile a big S**t eat'n grin 'til my sister poked him in the ribs and told him to knock it off.
