One scary statistic is that if the Ice Caps continue melting at a fast clip (like they are doing now)... the oceans could rise by 20 to 21 feet --- 3/4's of the worlds' populace live in the coastal regions -- and those folks would be looking for higher ground! Looks like I'll have beach front property! [Link: flood.firetree.net]

My history book tells me that people back in the day thought the earth was flat! Maybe your sources of info on global warming are as inaccurate as your history book. For well over two thousand years, people have known not only that the earth is round, but also how big it is. When people thought Columbus would fail, it was because they knew he would use more than half his supplies going much less than half way to India (so he would then starve if he went forward and starve if he turned back). Same again years later for Magellan. The argument was never flat vs. round. It was always correct size vs. smaller. Columbus and Magellan both thought the earth was much smaller. Both were wrong. Columbus got lucky (but he was still wrong). Most of Magellan's crew starved (and Magellan's death was a fairly direct result). As for global warming: the science that says it is due to CO2 from fossil fuel isn't real science. It is a bunch of guesses strung together to try to reach a conclusion that was selected for reasons other than evidence. That doesn't make me certain it is false. But it doesn't create the confidence in its truth to justify starving our economy while we find out.

I have seen these 2 things presented in numerous articles, even liberal ones. I didn't think this part of it was even in question. Do you have evidence to refute it? I have also read that cow flatulence (that's farts to you) out weigh human emissions, I don't know if this is true, but there are scientists who do. Read CrisMc's post, it is the best so far in my opinion. In the mean time you can keep wringing your hands and buying carbon credits and I'll keep doing nothing except eating all those polluting cattle. Enjoy your day if you can. So you can't cite a source, eh? I should just take it as a carved in granite fact? No, thanks. I'm disappointed, and was really hoping for a more spirited debate from you.

It's rather humorous reading all these statements about how global warming is all a conspiracy driven by people who will profiteer off of it. While there are ALWAYS people and companies who will profit over every issue, the money "fighting" global warming makes the money "promoting" global warming look like a needle in a haystack.
When all the internal company memos started to come out from the tobacco companies showing how they had suppressed evidence that tobacco caused cancer, there was huge money to be made off of that as well, as evidenced by the resulting government lawsuits. The fact that people made money off of it didn't make the fact that smoking causes cancer any less truthful.

My lord, all the usual suspects proving that intelligent life in the middle of this country is still a theory awaiting proof. And this is the first and last post I'll make because, much as I'd love to place QED below my one more proof that THON has fewer functioning brain cells than the average bear hibernating in Yellowstone I just don't have the time. It really is a shame that work is getting in the way of my posting.
Tom, I love you and I still offer prayers for your health. But the rational for believing you are saved does not work nearly as well when you are attempting to fix broken electronic components. Faith and empirical proof do not occupy the same realm and while one may serve you well in the after life or provide some meaning to this life, it is not going to help you very much if you cannot understand what a multi-meter or oscilloscope reading is conveying. Ice caps melting, Polar bears dieing off, seas rising, hurricanes more powerful, changes to the gulf steam, jet steam and I'd be thinking of becoming Catholic just to light a candle.

Alan Alan, don't do it! The initiation (having been brought up a Catholic) with Sister Mary Alice rapping your knuckles with a ruler is quite painful! :-)
