A surreal experience, and I use it to explain
my intermittently odd behavior.....

Yeah, I'm a recovering Catholic as well.
How hard can this be?

I wouldn't be a huge supporter of "polls" but here's one
that I reckon is pretty spot on when it comes to peoples
attitudes to global warming (from my own experience)

I would agree Spot on.

The problem I have is NONE of the 3 parties focus on what I think are important. It would be interesting to see what peoples top 3 issues are. Or top 5.
Like mine would be:

Family (Health Care, Education, SS)
National Security (Terror, Iraq)
Economy (Job status, immigration{that effects a whole bunch of issues.} TAXES)

But I guess for political reasons you can not go the right way on one issue and another way on a different issue. I my mind some of the stuff BOTH parties want is what we actually NEED.

Is there a Hybrid canidate out there?

When all the internal company memos started to come out
from the tobacco companies showing how they had suppressed
evidence that tobacco caused cancer, there was huge money
to be made off of that as well, as evidenced by the resulting
government lawsuits. The fact that people made money
off of it didn't make the fact that smoking causes cancer
any less truthful.

That's twice you have spoken on lung cancer and smoking. Does that relate to global warming?

My guess is that the smoking gives off CO2 and that is a cause??????? :)

Easy fix though if Smoking is a cause of Global warming...... CHEW! (Or the politically correct way quit)

Hey don't drag me into this....

Sure I'm good at melting the ice, and warming over a situation, but that doesn't mean I'm responsible for the negligent Americans destroying the planet.

Oh, but I guess I'm American too....name of continent right, (?) not country.

Ok blame me..

I have no problem with your priorities, but I think you might be remiss in expecting the government to take care of all of these. Personally, I think it is the individual's responsibility to take care of your first three. Yeah, I know politicians will promise you all of these things, but the bottom line is that you are the one it affects. Make sure you have adequate health and health care, make sure your kids are getting the education you want them to have, and for God's sake do not depend on SS. National security is definitely a government job. I'm not sure what you mean by job status, but it is definitely the individual's responsibility to get qualified for the job they want or better yet create a business that provides jobs. Immigration is a tricky issue and you are right the government needs to deal with it. Taxes should be cut to the opimal level (maximum receipts to the Treasury which surprisingly is about 15%) and left there so our government has less opportunity to meddle. So, if you take out the things that government has no business doing you are left with a pretty much conservative government.

Tom, I love you and I still offer prayers for your health.
But the rational for believing you are saved does not
work nearly as well when you are attempting to fix broken
electronic components.

I am sorry but I don't understand.

Faith and empirical proof do not
occupy the same realm

Lo contraire! True faith is not blind faith as perhaps some are quick to throw at me. True faith is based on significant evidence. The last small step is the step of faith.

Do you believe Abraham is the father of both Jews and Arabs, and the account that appears in the Old Testament? There is lots of evidence that it is true, and the last step is that you accept it as truth - the faith element.

Good science verifies the Bible in unusual ways. The aforementioned quote re: "the circle of the earth" is a good example. How about "the life is in the blood" (Lev. 17:11 for you) and the previous "medicine" of bleeding people (to death) in order to heal them. Or that air has weight (Job 28:25). I can supply many more, but alas, a skeptic will not accept facts but deride them. You are either a sincere seeker of truth or predisposed to not believe.

and while one may serve you well
in the after life or provide some meaning to this life,
it is not going to help you very much if you cannot understand
what a multi-meter or oscilloscope reading is conveying.

I'm pretty good with multi meters and scopes. Did you forget what I did for 20+ years?

Ice caps melting, Polar bears dieing off, seas rising,
hurricanes more powerful, changes to the gulf steam, jet
stream and I'd be thinking of becoming Catholic just to
light a candle.

Alan

Maybe if you just read this one so you could say he is a madman and continue to believe everything you want :^)

BTW, do you really pray for me?

Finally, if no one beats me to it, I may just change my tagline to "...still a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest" as annotated earlier by another.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

I think he is refering to the fact that scientists and doctors funded by big tobacco did not find a link between tobacco use and lung cancer.
Of course global warming researchers are pure as the driven snow because they care about the planet. And researchers funded by environmentalists would publish facts that disputed global warming if they found any.
