We have a Kawasaki PCS1965 for the car. From looking at other sites, it seems to be the lens unit that is broken. It was stuck halfway through a DVD, and from reading other posts, we moved it back down towards where the center of the dvd would be. It now plays the first two minutes of every dvd, but the lens unit doesn't want to go onto the next ring/thread of the dvd (towards the outer edge), does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

It sounds like the lens unit is getting stuck at the point where it was when you pushed it back towards the center. Therefore, I would suggest, GENTLELY, pulling it towards you or to the outside of it's travel. I would carefully pull it back with a wire stiff enough to hold an "L" shaped bend on the end. Being carefull of course not to drag it across the lens. Then push it back towards the center and see if you can feel the point at which it stopped at before. If you can then it will probably stop there again. At which time you need to figure out if it's worth my time to fix it or money to get a new one.
Lacking more information, this seems like the next logical steps to me.
Good Luck.

Thanks for the reply. However, my husband (who is a Mech. Eng. and reckons he can fix anything!!!), unscrewed the back and the smaller motor which makes the lens unit move up and down seemed to reset itself and we put it back together and the player works again. Good job too as we have a 14 hour roadtrip next Saturday and it would of been hellish in a car with a four and five year old! Thanks.

I seem to have the same problem with my PVS1965 - Here is my question; when you tried to play a disc and had no success, when you popped open the disc access lid, do you remember if the disc had been spinning? In my case the disc is not spinning and I get the no valid disc message.

I have a pvs1965 and I get 'no valid disc' with any region (1,2 and all region) discs I have tried. When I first got the unit I did the hack to make it region free and it worked for months hooked up to a t.v., but when I tried to set it up in my car for a road trip, I got a 'no valid disc' message. I have since tried suggestions from other sites to no avail (FAQ at mfr site, cleaning lens, moving lens mechanism back and forth). I am frustrated bec. the system works fine with audio and vcd. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Also, my unit does spin every time I insert a disc.

Regards.
Maria

Our Kawasaki PVS1965 gave us a "no valid disk" message recently and we got some help from the 1800customersupport.com staff. I was instructed to unplug the unit and turn the unit on/off switch on and off about 15 times to reset the player. I also pulled the eye unit to the middle of the disk area. Voila! It now works. Yea!
