Dave12345 - I don't know what to tell you. Both of the address 1 and 2 code sets have been tested on a 301 and 508 and they do work. Are you sure that you have the latest software versions on your receivers from dish? The discrete functionality was added in the software updates that came in December. The reason that these codes are shorter than the universal set is that the universal set sent the same command to the receiver 3 times. The codes that I posted send the command 1 time to the receiver.

The codes won't work on the expressview receivers until their software has been updated to recognize them.

THANKS for the reply!! The only thing that may be different is the way I am transferring the codes. I'm using my palm pilot a remote control program that lets me sync the hex codes to the palm pilot. Then I just point it at my remote and learn the keys or I can just use the palm pilot as a remote. It has worked fine for all other hex codes except the dish discretes - also I am pretty sure that I have the latest dish software version. The palm pilot remote software has an IR frequency range of 32.7 up to 455.0 that is configurable, does that make a difference? Also, the program is call OmniRemote Pro. Thanks for your help.

The frequency for this Dish protocol is ~58Khz.

I sure this is obvious to most of you out there, but I've read a lot about JP1, discretes, IR, Key-Master, etc., yet I do not understand what the meaning of strings of hex codes like the ones posted above, and what to do with them. I learned how to use IR to download into my URC-8811 the discrete codes for power on and off (022 and 026 respectively) for the Hitachi TV (device code 0145) so I can teach my MX1000. Can you please either explain to me how to apply strings of hex codes (like the ones above) for my application, or point me in the right direction.

Greetings! First of all, Thanks to all the people who contribute their work and knowledge to this site! I have a URC 8811 remote and a dish 501. I was looking for discrete On/Off (like everone else apparently!) when I found the above coding. After alot of reading and a little experimenting, I plugged the above code into Pronto Edit as a new key, saved the CCF file, ran the CCF through CCF2EFC.exe, scanned through the output text file and what do you know-

URC8811 Setup Code 0775 for my Dish 501
Discrete Off EFC = 166

Works like a Champ! I also came up with 090 as a discrete on, but it worked like the normal power toggle. Maybe it would work for other setups?

Hope this info is useful to someone else!

Gary

Chip,

I answered your question regarding your Hitachi RPTV here.

[Link: remotecentral.com]

Gary's solution is a good one for most common commands but in the case of Hitachi, there is an official website with all of their RPTV commands that I translated into EFC's.

There are very few commands posted here in the discrete section that haven't been decoded into OFA setup codes and EFC's. Look in www.hifi-remote.com advanced code list by setup codes.

Here's what I have for DISH On/Off Discretes (Using OFA Remotes, in particular, a Cinema 7+):

Device 0775

Address 1:
On - 242
Off - 174

Address 2:
On - 002
Off - 190

Address 3:
On - 234
Off - 166

Address 4:
On - 250
Off - 182

I've tried Address 1 & 2. I have not tried Address 3 & 4, but they do map to the pronto codes I have seen, so I expect that they should work.

Ron

After I saw Ron's post I went back and looked at my spreadsheet and Ron's agree with what I decoded and translated to EFC's.

Gary's EFC for discrete off is correct for the 8811. In fact any Off or On command on Ron's list will work on an 8811 for System address 1. The reason is that the 8811 and 15-2104 and subsequent models use a different internal IR protocol that ignores the unused two bits of the EFC (the commands are 6-bits EFC's are 8-bits). In the C7 and most other OFA remotes those "unused" bits in the EFC can call the first four system addresses.

In the newer remotes alternate system addresses can only be obtained by a device upgrade from UEIC using or by using a JP1 cable.

Gary I think if you test EFC 090 you will find that it is the power toggle. I don't have any Dish equipment but I do have an IR analyzer and EFC 090 is identical to the Power toggle on an 8811. Any of Ron's Power on EFC's will work for you.

Here is the response I got from expressvu...can't
fix something if you don't know what it is...

"Thank you for taking the time to contact us.
Your inquiry is appreciated.

I would be pleased to assist you with your inquiry.
However, I was unclear as to what "discrete code"
you are interested in for the model 5100 receiver.

I gues that more people have forwarded their complaints to Bell Expressvu. They now know what discreet on/off codes are all about, and might do something. Can't wait.
