Thanks to the work of jeffcarp for providing the original discrete power codes for dish network receivers, I have modified them to make them addressable for address 1-19. I have tested addresses 1,8 and 9, and they do work!

Here they are, and after the list I'll talk about the data structure.

You'll notice that these codes aren't nicely formatted. I left them broken up like this so you could clearly see the dish network code data structure. In these codes, the first line is the header (2 bits), the second line is the lead in bit (1 bit), the third line is the command (6 bits), the fourth line is the remote address (5 bits), the fifth line is unused (all zeros if you will) except for some PVR fuctions (5 bits), and the last line is the lead out (1 bit). Thanks to jarmstrong for doing the initial breakdown of the structure in the other thread and setting me in the right direction! I have removed the duplication of the command that was present in the original codes (it wasn't necessary it turns out) so they are cleaner.

Mark, you are awesome! I now have distinct discrete power codes for my 5000 and two 501s (remote addresses 1, 5, and 10). They work beautifully. This is monumental in my macro world. Thanks!

I'm going to ask Daniel to add them to the Discrete Codes section.

These codes are fantastic, however, they don't work for my PVR721 (they do work for my HD6000). Can anyone confirm they don't work for the PVR721? Possibly the upcoming software update (i.e. L105) which is due by Christmas will add this functionality to the PVR721.

I recently emailed Dish regarding discrete codes and they indicated discrete codes were recently added to most of their receivers, however, they supposedly weren't added to the PVR721. They indicated the reason for adding the codes was so their forthcoming EZ Remote product could utilize them. I wonder if this is why jeffcarp was able to just recently come up with the discrete codes? They also indicated that they weren't addressable but obviously markdl was able to make them addressable. I've emailed them again indicating addressable codes are now available and imploring them to make the PVR721 compatable. I'll post their response when I get it assuming they have anything meaningful to say.

Great work jeffcarp and markdl. Thanks for the codes.

I'll do some research about the 721s and report back.

I must be doing something wrong.
After adding the Address 1 OFF hex to my Pronto, I find that it will power the PVR 501 "ON" if it is indeed off.

Do I just not understand what the discrete code's function is?

I did further searching in the "Discrete Codes for Dish Network DSS Receivers" forum and found that the discrete "OFF" for All IR Devices(not addressed) works for me.

Since I do not have multiple units, this is a-ok for me!

paulseym, my 501 is on remote address 5 and the address 5 discrete off functions as it should (leaves it off if it is already off). My 5000 is on address 1, and the address 1 discrete off functions as it should for that receiver also.

There are at least 3 different IR prototocols used in current North Amercian Dish units. The one that has the discrete commands posted is the older, more common one that has 16-bits of data with a carrier frequency of 58KHz.

The "newer" one has 13-bits of data and a carrier frequency of 38 KHz. So it is possible that your unit uses the newer protocol, so post the pronto hex for the Power toggle command here, I can tell you which one it is.

Also, did you also try the original commands that were posted that were for all units to see if that works. It is possible that you are on a different System Address or your specific unit only responds to that one command.

jamstrong,

I did try the original non-addressable commands and they didn't work for the PVR721 (they did work for the HD6000). I set my PVR721 to addresses 1 & 2 and tried the appropriate codes but each time they didn't work. Do you have a PVR721? If so, did they work for you?

Here's the hex code for the original power on/off toggle command:

0000 0048 0001 0011 0017 0162 0017 00a1 0017 00a1 0017 00a1 0017 00a1 0017 0061 0017 00a1 0017 0061 0017 00a1 0017 00a1 0017 00a1 0017 00a1 0017 00a1 0017 00a1 0017 00a1 0017 00a1 0017 00a1 0017 0162

Any help in getting these codes working for the PVR721 would be greatly appreciated.

bobli,

Your Pronto hex is the standard power toggle (system address 2) for the older 58KHz protocol that has worked for the others. Very puzzling. Hopefully they will get around for a software upgrade for the PVR721 or their software upgrade didn't work in the PVR721.

I don't have any Dish equipment at all. I have just become familiar with the various Dish IR protocols and their command structure working with people that do in the OFA JP1 group and some home automation systems that can send IR commands.

All,

I just posted a protocol file that will generate all of the Dishplayer commands in the family of commands where the discretes have been found in another thread where someone asked for the Aspect ratio commands for the Dish HD receiver.

[Link: remotecentral.com]

Since I think the consensus is that the discrete power commands were the result of a recent software upgrade, then it may be worth trying all the other commands to see if anything else is there. I have included the known commands.

As I have mentioned I can't test this because I don't have any Dish gear but I would appreciate any feedback by model number as to what works and any new commands.

I'm assuming the recently discovered addressable (and non-addressable for that matter) discrete power codes don't work for anyone's PVR721 although I don't think anyone has yet confirmed this. Hopefully the new software release (i.e. L105), which is due by Christmas, will add this functionality.

The PVR721 hasn't had a software update in awhile and has never really had any kind of major update. I think most other receivers may have had a more recent update than the PVR721. It may be that these most recent updates added the discrete power codes and the upcoming one for the PVR721 will add them to this model. I emailed Dish last Friday to try to get some information regarding this but still haven't heard back.

I don't believe that the discrete power codes will be added to the 721 with the L1.05 release, unless dish adds them to the code now. Over at DBSTalk, we have a list of all of the new features and fixes (some of which haven't been made public yet) included in L1.05, and discrete power codes aren't on there. Doesn't mean that they won't be included, just means that we don't know about them.

We have now confirmed that the discrete power codes have not been added to the beta production version of L1.05 on the 721 that one of our admins has been running for the last week or so. Dish may add them to the final production release that is set to be released in the next couple of weeks, but I wouldn't count on it.

"We have no confirmed"? Does this mean that you have confirmed that they haven't been added to the beta version or that you haven't confirmed that they haven't been added to the beta version (i.e. are they definitely not in the beta or do you not yet know)?
