Sorry...typo. "We have now confirmed". No discrete power codes for the 721 yet in the beta version yet.

Would some one please take the time to explain what Addressable and non-addressable codes are? I have a 508 pvr and another entry level unit. All I care about is the PVR but I can't figure out what you guys mean buy the Addressable codes. Thanks. X

I've just received the L107 update to the PVR721 and unfortunately the discrete power codes still don't work for this unit. Dish has still not responded to my email regarding adding these codes to this unit.

x_789:Each Dish receiver, with the exception of the Dishplayer (there may be one or two others), has the ability to send commands from a remote control using different addresses. The PVR721 can use any of 16 different addresses while the HD6000 can use any of 19 different addresses. The user can set each receiver to a different address if they wish. The primary reason for doing this is so that if you have more than one receiver, commands sent from a remote will not be accepted by both receivers unless this is what you want. You simply change the address for one of the receivers so both receivers use different addresses. You can then control each receiver independently where commands intended for one aren't accepted by the other.

You can check the address of your receiver and remote (they are set to the same address assuming your remote properly controls your receiver but they can be set to different addresses) by viewing the system information screen. You can see this by hitting the system information button on the front of your receiver (usually works even if your receiver is off)
or by going through your receiver's menus until you find the option for system information (usually this is menu item 6 followed by menu item 1). Once your on this screen look for the description remote address. Finally you can use the remote to change this address if you wish (let me know if you need instructions on how to do this)

Well said, Bob. Although, the dish receivers now support up to 32 remote address, supposedly. I didn't see any need to spend another couple of hours on my code list after the first 19 addresses. (Although I would if someone asked for one of them.)

x_789 - I have 3 dish receivers in the same location. If the remote codes were not addressable, I wouldn't be able to have them together because one remote would control all of them at the same time. In a sense, you can think of 16 or 32 different remotes that send different IR codes can be read and used by the dish receiver. You get to choose which one to use.

Mark,

Earlier in this thread I posted a link to where I had posted instructions and a protocol definition file for John Fine's MakeHex, a Pronto hex generator. This will allow you to quickly create Pronto hex for any or all commands for the most common Dishplayer IR protocol and for any system address. I also posted all the known commands.

HELP!!! I can get the universal on/off codes to work, but the separate address codes don't. They also are shorter in length than the orginal all address code. Do I need to add them to the original? I have two dish boxes on address 1 (dish 508) and address 2 (dish 301). Please help! Thanks

I have the canadian version of the PVR501 system (up here its the PVR510)

My toggle code is

0000 0048 0001 0011
0017 0164
0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 00a3 0017 00a3 0016 0062 0017 00a3
0016 00a3 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 00a3 0016 00a3
0017 00a3 0017 00a3 0016 00a3 0017 00a3 0016 00a3
0017 0164

I have tried all the codes published so far and haven't gotten too far. Is this close to anyones IR for power toggle? or is it just that Canada is too far behind in technology to give us discreet power.
Customer support from Bell ExpressVu is pethetic..

Matt - I sent an email to Bell asking them to implement this feature. The response was not surprisingly noncommital. I would urge you and *all* Canadians in this forum to send a similar email. Perhaps if enough of us ask for it they will realize its value.

My feeling is that they will probably add it at some point, since Dish already has it implemented, but they won't rush a new software build out just for this.

I too have an ExpressVu 5100, and it's the *only* component in my system that still doesn't do discrete power codes.... Having tried numerous versions of the Dish codes posted here, I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one having this problem.

What e-mail address are you sending your requests to?

Please excuse my ignorance in this matter... but I do not understand the meaning of this code structure. From reading some of these posts, it sounds like these codes are meaningful to those who have Pronto remotes. I have an MX1000, and I just ordered a URC-8811 so I can supposedly download codes into it and then use it to teach the MX1000. Can I use the code information you posted for my application? I have a PVR508. If yes, please give me a hint on how to use the information.

Here is the response I got from expressvu...can't fix something if you don't know what it is...

"Thank you for taking the time to contact us. Your inquiry is
appreciated.

I would be pleased to assist you with your inquiry. However, I was
unclear as to what "discrete code" you are interested in for the model
5100 receiver. It may be helpful to know that Bell ExpressVu does offer
discrete billing as well as a "HIDE" feature for subscribers. For
information about these services, please feel free to forward your
inquiry to my attention.

If you have any further questions or concerns please feel free to
contact us at our toll free number 1-888-SKYDISH. Our Customer Service
department is available 24 hours, 7 days a week, for technical concerns
and activations. For all other inquiries, our office hours are Monday to
Friday 8AM to 9PM, Saturday and Sunday 9AM to 6PM, your local time.

Thank you for choosing Bell ExpressVu as your satellite provider.
