The next thing we can all work on is being a bit nicer and move away from the typical knee jerk reactions. I know I have some room for improvement there as well.

Shut up jerk ; -)

Was never ever a fan of the 5000 so not to familiar with its ability but maybe it can change a button status based on macro tied to a sensor from the relay board of the 400? That would be some sort of two way feed back.

That's a great idea.
Or maybe a silly little LED somewhere. (on with arm macro - Off with disarm macro)

That would be more scandalous than Crestron's absence from the show. CePro will be all over it.

install this file into your MX5000/TwoWay folder

This is the folder location on my laptop:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Universal Remote Control, Inc\Complete Control Program\MX-5000\TwoWay

Can you elaborate a little on how this might be easier with the msc 400. I am getting conflicting information.

I think Mac was actually poking fun at the person he quoted and not you. He was more or less pointing out how everything is remote controlled. The suggestion to possibly use a app rather than the remote might be a better path. It might be easier, however if you have the MSC400, your options open up with the possibility to using rs232.

So let me share my understanding and tell me if i am off track other the what has already been pointed out.

the mx5000 does 2 way ip control
the urc msc 400 is one way

the mx500 would be the bridge between my HAI and msc400. I would still get feedback from the panel to the remote about lighting status ,arming status and such. What I would not get is feed back from any device setup in msc 400 directly that doesn't use IP.

I want to be able to press movie time on my remote which would send out 2 commands one to the urc and one to HAI via ip.
Command one would tell the devices need for movie to turn on ir/rf
Command two will go to HAI to dim lights to movie level and to close curtains if open and set thermostat and such.

My biggest issue other than money to go to total control is that the software is so tightly controlled that I can't even be grandfathered into the new system. I am concerned that for every change that I may want to make with my system that I would need to pay a fee and call my dealer to make it happen no matter how small it might be. This is very counter DIY and lend to the belief that one person control my system and that is not me.

To be blunt, with those restrictions, you need to head whatever direction your HAI keypad is then....

780's and 980's dont do 2-way at all, and I'm 99% sure that that MX-5000 only does 2-way with IP control.

MSC-400 doesnt do IP. maybe if you can find the IP module you could do the direct IP control through the MX-5000 but I cant think of a more painful thing to do with a URC remote off hand. Maybe build a custom Tic Tac Toe game with lights in the ceiling....

I wish you the best of luck in your endeavor though.

Total Control is not a DIY system. There will be no access to end users to the software. If you do not want to work with a dealer than Total Control is not for you. The hardware you have now is better suited to your needs if you wish to have full control of programming.

Its not that I don't want to work with a dealer , as if you guys are a group of scoundrel and such. no not at all I actually believe that your job of taking a customers ridiculous wish and making it a reality while gritting your teeth is pretty hard. But I think you voice my concern: NO ACCESS TO THE END USER.

I didn't mean to imply you didn't want to work with a dealer, just that you wish to maintain some control of programming, and Total Control won't allow you to do that. Didn't want you wasting time researching that knowing it will be a dead end for you.

unless you require 2-way feedback from HAI, just use the serial commands I've pointed out to transmit signal from MSC400 to HAI and be done.

I control lights, shades, t-stats, arming/disarming, etc from remote.
Do you really need to know if the basement light is on? No. Issue All Off (or basement lights off) command and be done.

You can get very granular with sending commands, including dimming, raising/lowering, etc. or just keep it simple.

In my theater room, I have a wakeup macro that sets all the A/V as well as T-Stats and turns on the lights.
Pressing PLAY, along with the obvious, also turns the lights off.
Pressing Pause, turns the lights on to scene B.
Pressing Stop, turns the lights on to scene A.

KISS> don't over complicate things. But as it usually goes, DIYers tend to like to tinker, so have at it.
