Today, I got a call from customer asking me to come over and shut the 70V DA amp so that contractor could replace water soaked ceiling tile.
Before she finished asking me the question, she stopped and said "wait, the music just shut down -- did you do that?"

I love technology and this is my first useful use of OVRC.

About an hour later:

All of this while I was on the ladder installing relay to cut power to Crown CDI1000 that's hardly used (pool area) but always draws 30W-34Watts.

I love technology.

I love this OVRC thing!
Installed new router yesterday, and while I did setup multiple port forwards, I obviously missed one:

Oops, got to go...
No, not to his house.
Got to go over to OVRC or VPN to fix my screw up.
VPN, which BTW I setup at 3AM this morning from my laptop, while in bed.
All this while accessing router's OVRC remote GUI.

Literally 2 days ago I would have had to get in my truck right now and drive to their house since this was my mistake and I wouldn't otherwise be able to get there for another 1.5 weeks.

I had some luck setting up MikroTik and ERPoE, but none with such ease as this Araknis router.

Mario,
On the routers we're discussing on IP you can do same thing. Just set up remote management and set up ddns and viola you can log in remotely and change port forwarding or whatever else need be.

I was going to order the 600 based on your issues with USG, but Amazon [Link: amazon.com] is out of stock and I was too lazy to look up other suppliers. It's the weekend so no one will ship anything until Monday anyway.

On my ERPoE I still have not setup VPN, even though Chris was kind enough to find me the 18 steps that it'll take to set it up. It was so easy to do it on the Araknis router.

Is remote management same thing as opening HTTP port (80) into the router, or something separate?

DDNS thing is already setup up from WattBox power switch which I would not have to do with OVRC but in all likelihood I would have to set it up for client to access remote cameras, home automation, etc.

I'll continue this discussion on IP.

I had a similar experience with an Elan g! system yesterday. Customer called and said that everything was working perfectly, but the "skip forward" button for his DirecTV wasn't working. I was in front of my computer and logging into his system as soon as he called so I looked and, sure enough, the IR command wasn't assigned correctly on the HR2. Made the change and as soon as he finished explaining the problem I said, "try it now."

It worked, and the guy started giggling. He said, you just fixed the remote while I was holding it in my hand, from 50 miles away.

Sometimes technology is great...too bad we missed the issue in the first place.

I'll give you something almost better. Elan has a driver for bluebolt. Put the router and modem on outlets on a 4315. Then put a toggle button on the home screen of the Elan user interface. Make that button power cycle the bluebolt to reboot the network. Set the toggle button so that when the related outlet is on, it automatically turns the toggle button back on. Now, If they have a problem, they reboot their network without having to get out of their chair.

Of course, setup the auto ping and reboot on the bluebolt too so most of the time any network problems are self correcting before they know it.

I saw on the Elan forum that someone has the one way commands to control a wattbox too. As soon as I have time I'm going to try it because I prefer ovrc.
