this is a post i made on another forum, but feel we all need to be aware
Here i am laying in bed at the Alfred Hospital here in Melbourne, why am i here Thursday morning was like no other got up at 6am showered had breakfast and headed off to work at 8am. Got to work had a cuppa ànd had aslight headache and took 2 panadol. An hour later headache gone, proceeded to finish presentation before heading to see client. Packed my bag and said see you tomorrow. A colleague asked if i was ok as i looked tired.
Had meetting with client, and procceeded to head home, the colleague i was with rang but i hadnt got it on the handsfree so ignored it. A few minutes later a number of my other colleagues rang as well as the client. So thinking something had happened i stopped at the side of the road and rang my colleague who asked to stop the car and asked where i was. Asking why he said we are concerned on your health, we are calling an ambulance as you were mumbling through the meeting. Met ambulance and asked stuff loads of question and a few tests done before being taken to the Alfred with lights and sirens on. Once admitted into ER further test done along with a CT before being admitted . My blodd preasure was 245 over 90 when i arrived Have had ultraasounds, MRI and Xrays which have confirmed that i had a small stroke which they suspect which happened when i had the headache some 7 hours earlier.
Im am a 50 year old non smoker who rarely drinks, the only thing is i have also just been diagnosed as a diabetic whilst here. They beleive that this is what caused the stroke. All the flying i have done in past 18 months may have been a contributing factor as i had just done a Melbourne to brisbane then drive to the sunshine coast and back the day before. Prior to that i have done 12 trips fom melbourne to shanghai returns and 3 melbourne to singapore returns.
Now why am i writing this, I urge all of you to be aware of your health, and do take note when a colleague asks you if your ok. If you have had a headache or speach sounds different or you face has dropped. Just drop what your doing and get someone to call an ambulance, it may be what will keep you alive and pursue our wonderful hobby.
I have been told to take it easy and see a speach therapist, i can type but cant speak too well now. Also told to stay home and not worry about work
I also ask you to be observant of your colleagues , family and freinds. If you suspect anything take their damn car keys off them and get them to sit down while you call an ambulance.

Well that is two concurrent depressing posts. Glad everyone is ok Chris, that's what is important. Get well Mr. Mod. That is certainly scary. As someone that had a near fatal asthma attack ten years ago that put me in a coma for several days, I understand how precious life can be. Good luck with your recovery.

Working on an old car is more fun that electronics. Just had a thought. I should bring the 67VW up for you to play with, since "working on an old car is more fun". Believe me when I say you would have way too much more fun.... :-) In all it rusty glory: ][IMG] [/IMG]

Since I have a few minutes before I have to run to an appointment, and because this thread somehow got buried all the way on page 6, I figured I'd post a few things I did to the MG over the past couple of weeks. It's running pretty darn good now, so I decided to do a couple cosmetic and entertainment upgrades. First, I decided to install a radio as my wife prefers to have some music while driving. I wanted to maintain the classic look, so I went with a Retrosound radio, which is designed for classic cars with a period look, but modern features. It has a couple USB Aux inputs, Bluetooth, AM/FM with plenty of presets and RDS. I didn't want to cut into the door cards, so I went with some Retrosound door pods with 6.5" Polk marine grade speakers and mounted the front speakers in the foot wells. Not optimal for sound, but its just your basic background music while driving and they do just fine there. Put a par on the rear deck as well. With that done, I moved onto to installing the top boot cover. This is actually the second one I got. The first one I messed up on the measuring as I started installing the 'lift the dots' starting on the left and went around to the right. They were way off as I did the measuring once and then installed the 'lift the dots'. I learned my lesson. So my wife bought me a new one for my birthday. This time, I started with the left/rear 'lift the dot', then fitted in on the car, measured for the right/rear and removed the cover and installed the 'lift the dot'. Fitted it on the car again and then the next one in on the left side, and continued with fitting and removing for each 'lift the dot'. It's not terribly labor intensive, but I did it square in the scorching sun to help keep the vinyl soft, as you really have to stretch it quite a bit. For those that don't know what the lift the dots are, here are a couple pictures: The posts in this pic were already installed on the car for use with the covertible top. The top piece lays on top of the vinyl, you cut a center hole and push the legs through the material. Then you put the thin bottom piece on the backside of the material, with the legs from the top going through the holes, and then just bend them inward to lock it all in place. You then snap it onto the posts on the car. And when installed, look more or less like this: Also upgraded the gauges lighting to led. Before, they were barely visible at night. Now there is no issue seeing them. Sorry, I know this picture doesn't do a great job of showing the difference. Crappy cell phone pic in the dark: The only other thing I did recently is add the new floor mats that you can see in the speaker pictures. Next I plan to strip the metal under the foot wells and prime and repaint. There is some nasty sticky stuff that looks like it possibly came from an old leak in the pump that powers the windshield wipers. I am going to probably paint it black, it is currently yellow. It is kind of distracting and I think the black will look a bit better. Also have to do the rear leaf springs, as the back of the car sags a little.
