I also think we should divide this topic into two:
*Should everyone have access to The Pronto Pro Area?
*Should everyone have access to the software?
These are two, totally different issues.

IMO, A distributor selling Prontos out the back door at dirt-cheap prices has basically caused the issue that Custom Installers cannot justify the MSRP for the remote and the services they are supposed to be providing. This, I think, was only one of the reasons for the crackdown as I'm sure there were others. That is the reason the company I program for in OZ changed to another brand. People in OZ can buy these remotes online way cheaper than their cost prize. I don't blame Aussies for purchasing from the US at all. Lets face it they are way to expensive here in OZ (I know why) but that is for a different debate. Cheers Jason

If they won't open it for us, I will buy another system and I'll hope you guys would do the same. But they loosing their regaular customer at this way, so it's their own choice. I have to admit it is annoying but I love my Pronto, I cannot see myself changing to another system.

Thanks

Cheers Jason Spot on Jase! Over here I was quoted $1500AU for a RFX9600 each and for a TSU 9800 $5000AU. B&H Photo was no where near those prices. At the end of the day I refuse to be ripped off. Im sure most of you all will agree.

I agree.
This could be part of a larger drama demanding that the distributor reach a certain sales level in order to maintain pricing incentives or continue the line. It may have been in the distributor's best short term interest to dump a few units. In the pre Internet past the dumping had been done quietly and did not cause any great damage. A few people got a good deal and everyone was happy. Now that this sort of deal can be shouted on the Internet, the damage to dealers and manufactureres can be huge.
I've lost whole system sales because of this. A potential customer will stumble across a Pronto priced near or below my cost and conclude that I am attempting to rip them off and walk away. The whole experience creates ill will towards me and other similar dealers. This is too bad because they'll probably go on to get a great deal on an inferior system that will not meet their objectives.
Last week I had a potential customer (refered to me by my distributor) open the conversation by asking if I minded if he purchased his own units because he could get a good price on the Internet. This was before he even asked for my price or gave me complete details about the scope of his project. This, IMO, is one of the main reasons the policy was put into place. An already hurting market is hurting that much more because of internet "dumping".

All due respect Mike, this is the Pronto Pro section. I'm well aware of that. But he asked a question, and I've just answered him. Trying to help people and that's what i thought forum was for. I didn't start any discussion, just gaved him something to search for

Mike was just providing information. I, too have been looking @ the Global Cache offerings as they allow one to distribute equipment where it is needed (for example a 232 port for a thermostat) without having to deploy a full RFX9600 extender or a cable run to said location. The wifi product they offer are actually quiet nice.

Sorry little bit off topic again. With all due respect, but maybe Nimnul just didn't like the items I just write down, cause Nimnul is a Distributor of Pronto and not for the Global Caché and has been sending me private messages in a very commercial level. That tells me that I should have bought the software and hardwares from his resellers to get any support, and telling me that if i bought the remote thru his channels, I would have access to the softwares etc... "You don't kick to people that's alreday lying down" Just mine opinion
Anyway, I'll will wait for Philips to their descisions before I make my descision. I really, really like these remotecontrols and the softwares that just getting better and better. So I'll hope for everything that I'll get back my level 1 cert and can download eveyrthing like I use to do. Everything back to normal, in other words :-)

Relax guys nimnul is not all bad. I actually met him at Cedia.
While I agree this is the Pronto PRO forum, it is logical to discuss glue devices that can be used with the Pronto PRO. While Philips and its distribution would like us all to use the RFX as the IP-RS232 and IP-IR devices there are other solutions out there, and this forum is for two types Hobbyists and Professional installers.
If it were to be restricted to Professional installers only then I wouldn't be here and neither would Lyndel, and I suspect a lot of others also.
I use a GC device in my home and it is driven by the Pronto through a general purpose PC program that I have discussed here before. I can discuss a PC can't I (;-)?
I am looking at their new offering, the iTach, and will buy one to play with and see how it reacts to being directly driven by a Pronto over IP. I really like the way they handle IR repetition.
When Lyndel or others politely tell a newcomer he is at the wrong forum it is generally to help them get to the right place where they will get better support, not because they shouldn't be here.
We have started to sound/act like some other forums I used to contribute to but left becuase of the attitudes that became threatening. Life is to short. Most undesirable behavior comes out of frustration and maliscous intent so just take a breath.

I remember when I use to program RU960's (TSU3500) and we had few people crack their touchscreen while still under warranty and it would cost $500AU to fix them. The brand we use know we have had to two cracked touchscreens and guess what it cost the customer?....NOTHING! Now that is service!

When do you know everybody calmed down? When you see offtopics coming out of the shadows :).
I believe We need a separate GC thread too keep all experiences there (easyer to go through when someone needs info), to discuss them there, I'm also looking at them.

If this is the case, and pronto is closing up shop on us DIY customers I will have a TSU9800, TSU9600, RFX9600 and an RFX9400 for sale very shortly. Lol.. what else are you going to use? It's not like the stuff you currently have will instantly stop working.

All right, I shall abide and cool down. Maybe by Monday the world will be back to order. If it will not, I am afraid that I may have to contemplate further action... :-)
