Hi,

I am a fairly new member but have been following this thread. ADI has advertised the new Pronto TSU9600RF for about $900 and available starting Sept. 11. It was in their latest monthly sales brochure. AVAD (Customworks in MA) is offering training starting in October. I was surprised to see the new Pronto Professional available so soon since I did not expect to see it until late this year or early next.

The screen shots from the editor on remoteshoppe.com look very interesting. I am more interested in the features of the new editor program itself. Since the editor determines what we can or cannot do with the remote.

I hope that it will import PCF and CCF files, not so much for the images but for the pronto hex codes. I have a lot invested in building a large library of pronto files with learned codes, especially discrete codes. Without being able to use files and codes makes the new Pronto of limited value and more difficult to program. It would also allow installers to continue to use utility programs like IR Tools, ProntoUtil, MakeHex and MakeLearned.

It also needs to have a code editor page just like the existing pronto editors.

It sounds like the new Pronto Professional will have an RF module, the RFX9400 with some expanded capabilities like RS232. Will they include external sensors like light, voltage or current sensors to handle components that don't have discrete power commands.

Anyways, I hope we in the installer community can get copies of the Editor software really soon to try it out and get familar with it. Looks like Philips is timing it's release with it's debut at CEDIA in Sept.

To me the most interesting part of the new teaser is the fact that it will include a stylus. I've never had problems pressing the buttons on my TSU7000 so it makes me wonder whether there is some other function for this stylus.

Ok finally got the teaser to work on my PC

Being the owner of an iPronto I can only presume that the stylus will be required for internet browsing. The question of Wi-Fi capability is still open by to me the stylus looks like a very positive sign.

Any other thoughts??

Now that is a teaser... :)

I concure about the Stylus and the web idea. I know customers would loose that damn thing quick if they had to use it all the tiem. This is why we make buttons that people can actually use...

the stylus will be required for internet browsing.

The stylus enables the use of very small buttons that are placed close to one another. With the enhanced screen resolution, people will be able to make legible buttons that are much smaller than was possible on older Prontos, so the use of a stylus as opposed to a thick fingertip can make sense. I have an iPronto 6400 that has a similar stylus. I find that I sometimes like to use it, for example, when dialing in a 3- or 4-digit channel number. I've also found that some women like to use a stylus - worried about nail-chipping or related issue.

In my opnion, one of the biggest potential advantages of the new Pronto is the ability to make small buttons legible. This means that one should be able to get away with fewer pages (screens) per device, which in turn simplifies the design considerations, programming time and ease-of-use.

Beautiful graphics. I hope Philips introduces a large screen model at some point in the not too distant future.
