Has anyone gotten their hands on this stuff yet. We're in the process of getting there and have already placed our opening orders.

On a side note, does anyone know if you can nix the audio keypads and simply assign a separate hand held remote for each zone? (kind of like the Bose distributed audio system dare I say)

Long story short, I'd like to replace an existing whole house audio system with the Prodigy, and just use remotes instead of keypads.

Thoughts? Ideas?

Just got our demo package today. We should have some testing done by the end of the week. I'm anxious to load a program and add a few non Prodigy devices to see if everything plays nice. I will keep you posted.

I just caught this and want to mention that many have reported getting nowhere close to that so anyone reading this should be very careful and IMO not expect to get 100'. Personally if I am specifying an MLX-2 I would be conservative and try to make sure to have the gateway in the room within 25'.

I have had good luck with the MLX-2 but I agree that I should have stated YMMV. I see nothing wrong with your spec of 25' and this is probably a good median distance. Thanks for catching me on that.

39 Cent Stamp: Thanks for the input... I'm not sure when I'm getting the equipment, but it should be soon and I'll dive right into it.

Mr. Brad: Yeah, the first thing I'm going to be doing is testing it out on my Boss' living room entertainment system which should give a pretty good idea of how it will control non-Crestron equipment... then, I'll be testing the lighting and thermostat controls as well as how well it interfaces with an iPod touch or iPhone. I really want to test out how well I can control this stuff from a cellular connection.

Also, has anyone read about or found a way which Prodigy can interface with a security system?

Please share your findings. Also, I didn't know that they had an iPhone app already available???

I heard that security systems in general are just to talkative and the little Prodigy processor would struggle dealing with it.

Looks sweet.

Now... I have already downloaded a Crestron app for my iPod Touch, of course it can't connect with anything yet, because, well, I don't have anything Crestron right now... but will there be just one app for all Crestron? Or will there be a separate app for Prodigy?

My guess would be that the one official Crestron app could just tap into whatever Crestron system you wanted and adapt itself, but hey, I'm new to this so I don't know anything for sure.

Stamp, hate to keep bugging you about all this Prodigy stuff, but it looks like you've been toying around with this stuff a bit... when you're programming for Prodigy, does it just lend itself to the iPod/iPhone interface automatically? Or do you have to set up different menus and pages for the touchpads, iPod, etc.?

I should probably just wait to get my hands on it and hold off on all the questions until I can mess with it huh?

I'll be sure to post any issues/findings/successes/failures/questions and answers as I get to them.

Oh I can't wait!

Prodigy programming is like a checklist of what your rooms are, what your sources are, what controllers you have etc. Then it generates menus for everything automatically. You dont have to touch the graphics or any of the interface files.

Without having hardware (i dont have it) i wont know exactly how well it functions but i opened the file with System Builder and the menu logic is just like System Builder.

This is what the Main Menu page looks like where you choose lights climate or media. Then you just drill down into it like any typical user interface so you would press Media (your AV sources) then page flip to where you choose a source then you press one and macro launches and you page flip to the source control menu.

This looks pretty sweet.

I'm going to meet with the crestron rep mext week i think to get a demo. We do alot or RTI, and are happy with the software, but programming is a real chore, and they don't have a complete line, nor very much 2 way support.

I'll probably get all the answers I need next week, but i'll ask anyway, and this is so new noone may know, but how does prodigy handle home theater? Say you have a prodigy DA System, can you have a handheld TP to controll theater gear locally, and also talk to say a homeworks lighting system?

I admit I didn't get too far on the crestron website.

You would probably have better luck talking to Crestron Prodigy lighting :).

Heres a CEPro article about prodigy, it has some nice screenshots of the wizard :

Yeah, my take is that Prodigy, at least currently, is sorta of your home automation in a box system. Actually I don't think the DA stuff is even out yet, so your more likely to be using for controlling someone else DA system and just using it for home theater and zone control.

The MLX2 can be used for any zone really, whether its a Media room or just an audio zone.

I haven't played with the hardware or the software yet, so I'm just passing on from various things I have read about the lineup.

I may be wrong, but I think at Cedia they said that the 4X100, PTX3 and some of the lighting won't be available until around the end of the year.

We were also just confirmed Crestron Prodigy Dealers and we are awaiting our first system which I sold to a long time friend for his home, and our demo system.

If I could ask a question or two of all the current Crestron Dealers out there...

A) What are some steps I may want to take in order to make the most of being a Crestron Prodigy Dealer?

B) I've seen a bit of concern from long time Crestron guys that this whole Prodigy line is going to open up Crestron to sub-par integrators and devalue the brand... so, aside from being the best integrator I can be, what else can I do in order to not be "that guy"?

We are in this business for the long haul, we love our work, and strive to be the best. Any other advice for a new Crestron guy?
