Mobile Pro works and the Mobile Pro G was recently added to the user interfaces. I will try it out tonight.

The one project I did with Prodigy was just off-site thermostat monitoring...

How did that work out? I'm thinking about Prodigy now, and have a prospect that mentioned being able to see and control his Tstat's online and from his phone. Did your project have a heat pump? I saw that the heat pump required an outside temperature sensor.
Thanks,
G

Crestron's native language is Simpl. If you can program in Simpl you can program Prodigy using Simpl.

Most Prodigy dealers cannot program in Simpl. Therefore they use Systembuilder, which is a configuration coding utility using drivers Crestron has written. There are some ways these macros work that you need to learn so that you code them in Systembuilder efficiently. One of these tricks is that Systembuilder is a feedback driven utility. You trigger the event with source selection. You then base all macros on source_X_fb=true.

The smartest trick is to use Crestron's prodigy products. Then it's to restrain your geek gene and keep it simple. While you are welcome to use a receiver's zone 2 it is going to eat into your programming time, particularly since you're going to have to base a lot of logic on zone2 on=true and zone2_source_X_fb=true.

Use Prodigy dimmers, Prodigy TSTATs, Prodigy amps and Prodigy iPod docks.
Use any DVD/Bluray, display and cable/sat box you'd like. Unless you expect to deliver it in every system you sell, stay away from using AppleTV to control iTunes on your touch panel. Yes, there are macros that do this. If you are not selling this on to every job and you expect your jobs to be profitable don't deploy this feature.

I will say this again, despite the probability it will fall on deaf ears, your geek gene is the enemy of you bank account.

Alan

This sounds like awesome advice. I am looking at Prodigy and I'm willing to keep my geek gene in check(it's wimpy anyway) but one thing that I am interested in is getting feedback from Pandora. Is there a Crestron module or something that will do that simply, or do you have to use a third-party device like a receiver or a bluray player? How will require the training class and experimentation I guess. Any input is appreciated,
G

Another question is how well the system controls from the iphone. Has anyone used the iphone for control a lot? Is it possible to use a minimal amount of hand-held or wall controls and rely mainly on the iphone/phones/itouches?

One limitation of Prodigy is that you can only have ONE iphone/touch and probably pad, controlling the system at a time. You can have the app on multiple devices, but only one can use at a time.

Same goes for the Xpanel. So yes and no. Yes the control works great, but no you really can't just depend on them b/c of the one at a time limitation.

I just created a system, which includes Mobile Pro G for iPad as an interface. I noticed that the graphics are a lot like the iPhone app - not like the screen shots they've been using on the Crestron Web site. It's pretty cool but a bit disappointing. Is there some way I can get the better graphics for a Prodigy system?

How is everyone using Prodigy?
Are you replacing RTI, URC or whatever you used for the entertainment system, then adding automation, lights etc? Are you using it for DA as well? Just for Master bedroom systems or one-room systems? Home theater only?

Would you use it for a moderate size home, for all the lighting control, audio and theater? How do the thermostats work for you? Customers like them? Any issues?

Is it just an entry level system for all you guys that do full Crestron?

Are you using mainly PTL4's for DA, or the keypads, or PTX3's?

I do mainly small to mid-sized stuff, and I am excited about Prodigy because it seems to offer a solution that does automation, 2way feedback etc at a good price point but allows you to jump in at any depth with room to upgrade the customer in the future. I'm not really sure what it is capable of, which is why I am asking questions here, since a few of you have experience with Prodigy.

Anything you have to share on your experiences would be appreciated.

TIA,
G

We're using it to sell home automation to folks who normally can not swing it. It's a pretty easy sell for a one-room system that is completely upgradeable to a whole house control system as the end-user can afford it. Obviously, it's a lot harder to program bits at a time rather than doing a whole house from the get-go, but I've found people enjoy and can swallow the PMC2+ first, then a month or two later, add thermostats, then a month or so later, add some lights, then the PAMP. Etc, etc. This is of course for budget minded folks. We've sold quite a few whole home systems and I've found people enjoy not HAVING to have touchpanels. Most folks I sell this too are upper-upper middle class. 4-500k home. They don't like the PTL4 usually (it is pretty ugly, in my opinion, but probably on purpose) but they do like the remote and being able to operate the whole house from the remote. I've found that is the biggest selling feature. Doing a demo system (either in a showroom or a mobile rack that can go to someone's home) and buying the $100 Mobile Pro App (iPhone or Touch) and setting it up and demo-ing it that way, it sells itself. I usually don't even have to say anything. Sorry for the stream of consciousness writing.

No experience of Crestron/Prodigy to date

Can someone give me some guidance as to the flexibility of the user interface for Audio on the ipad app?

End user likes the flexibility of the Sonos interface (ie playlists, nice graphics etc) but not clear to me what functionality Crestron ipad app gives in comparison?

Also, could a ZP90 be used as an input?

Yes you can use Sonos as a source. However feedback is a little different. THere are some feedback modules for Sonos, but I've heard its quite the gamble to go with.

We've done two systems so far. One was 4 zones of DA with 2 lighting loads and a family room (no avr). The 2nd was 3 zones of DA, 3 lighting loads and a family media room with AVR. Both systems have one PTX3, One PTL4, one audio keypad and the Mobile Pro App.

I'm just about to start installing my personal system and hope to soon be learning a lot more.

Is anyone having issues with PTX3's keeping a charge? I left the one in my office off the charger went out for a few hours this morning and came back and it was dead. I have adjusted the LCD settings and wake ups etc. I am rather disappointed if this is the case

Please let me know if this is an issue for anyone else

Your post was a long time ago, hope my reply is still useful.

What you see seems to be a bug in the PTX3 f/w. After every upload of a project, you need to set the sleep and standby settings again.

Sometimes after update, even if you set them properly, the sleep settings don't work, making the PTX3 constantly being awake. The battery will be empty in a few hours.

To solve, reboot the PTX3 (by holding the power button 10+ seconds), then go to the setup and set the sleep / standby settings again. If they work now, they will keep working until the next upload.

I'm still learning about System Builder and tweak the project almost every day, so I run into this often.

I have several PTX3's in my home and they work up to 1 week without charge.
The next version of my control software will be so great, it will control the world! Or maybe not, in that case wait for the update which should come really soon.
