Hey there.. I normally frequent audio forums, so I'm a newbie here.. :)

I'm looking for something pretty basic.. so basic that I think I'll just bullet-list it.. :)

- I have a Bedroom with a TV
- I have a Living room with TV and Tivo
- I have an agile RF modulator
- I would like to watch Tivo in the bedroom
- need an ultra-inexpensive solution

I already have the RF modulator to put the Tivo output onto, say, channel 86 or whatever.. I just would like a convenient way to control the Tivo from the bedroom...

Looking for either:

- IR-RF-IR range extender (and I'll just carry the remote between the two rooms); or

- a simple universal remote with RF + base-station

Doesn't matter to me, I just don't have a lot of money to spend (otherwise I'd just buy another Tivo!). So price is certainly *THE* key requirement..

With all the remotes and range extenders out there, I am pretty lost...

thanks for all your help!

You could get a "Next Generation Remote Control Extender" which would let you convert your Tivo remote into an RF remote, which in turn would let you use the Tivo remote in the bedroom. Price is $33.32 shipped from Amazon.

Yes I just saw that also .. Although my next concern would be when I'm in the living room, would the Tivo get double-commands? (one from the IR remote and one from the RF-IR transmitter?)

I also see a Terk and a few other "RF Range Extenders" ... seems a lot of the "big name" products have pretty spotty reviews though.. :(

hopefully some others will chime in also with more suggestions and feedback..

I cant remember who originally posted a link to this but MCM has a URC remote with RF base station for under $40 bucks.

If that were to be the case, you could cover up the IR window on the Tivo remote with some electrical tape, then the Tivo would always be responding to the RF signal. Alternatively, you could shield the Tivo's IR window so it can only see the Next Gen's IR blaster.
