I am in the process of programming my first system with an XP8.

Is there something I'm missing for using the RJ45 RS232 ports? I can't seem to get commands to work (testing with simple Denon AVR that I've done before)

Also, the denon is a 4310 (which I think supports IP control) and i have a Zektor 8x8 (rs232 and IP control). How do I take advantage of IP control or should I?

I'm sure I have many more questions, but those are a couple of the big ones right now.
do wino hue?

Make sure you are routing the commands to the correct 232 port.
The only time Microsoft will make something that doesn't suck is when they start making vacuums

I just did a 4310 and had no issues

Just a cat5 cable plugged into the XP-8 and then to rj45-db9 connected to the receiver.

MAke sure you are sending commands to correct port, and 2 way is off on the receiver....set to serial

I was using the driver commands, it was missing a few that I had to add and use regular 232 commands
There's no worse feeling than that millisecond you're sure you are going to die after leaning your chair back a little too far.

You're not going to be able to use IP control unless RTI has a driver written for it.

Also, if your RTI driver has both an IP and RS232 option, make sure you have RS232 selected.  You can have IP selected and also show an RS232 port selected.  i.e. you can have "Connection Type" set to "Networks (TCP/IP)" and you will still show a serial port used for the driver ("Serial Port   [RS-232] Port 1") even though it's not in use.

I'd say that's borderline on being a "bug".... really wish they would grey out the Serial drop-down when IP is selected...

I may be wrong for some products but if you want to use IP control and the product and driver support that, you do not need to use up one of the RS232 ports on the XP8. If you are going to use a 2way driver and set it up for RS232 control then you would use a port.
You of course have to set up the device being controlled, and then input the IP address into the RTI driver so it knows where to send the commands.

Yup! IP goes out over the ethernet port to specified IP address and RS232 goes out via an assigned RS232 port.

I haven't messed with it on the Denon pieces, but I think they have an RS232 port AND an Ethernet port.

Yes, can confirm because of testing both ways.
Only limit as i found so far: XP8 and Denon AVR has to be on same network segment. If routing is used, AVR asks for a name and password.
