ive been burned by more than one tech out there - seems like when you ship something out of state only God can protect you - and he's busy.

readytech - chris ready stole somewhere near $5k in bullcrap restorations.

quad bob in california - 2 qrx9001 receivers - and a qrx7001....smoked.

so as i continued to buy vintage gear - because i have the money and the desire....but i wanted a tech near me.

i got cancer and ended up selling a bunch of stuff to make sense of the medical bills - i was getting rid of some sansui paraphernalia - the clock - some signs - the real posters....et cetera. he contacted me - said he was local - about an hour and he'd like to see what all ive got.....so i invited him over.

with a scribble-tex pad and a few hours he left with a lot of gear - all in need of repair - and he left with all of my sansui collection....and i went back to bed.

after being burned before...i was mentally prepared for it again....but i also was storing this stuff in a basement that has a bad habit of leaking....so i felt if it all disappeared, then my loss - but at least it wasnt going to the city dump.

in short - brent has gotten me my first load of restorations - the sanyo jcx2900k receiver - laugh if you want at sanyo - trust me, being a sansui person.....i never considered sanyo as anything but junk - but reading threads about "sleepers" out there i pounced on a few that i thought looked nice and were impeccably clean - jcx2900, jcx2600, jcx2400 and the 2050....i also bought the sanyo plus 75....but i hated it upon arrival.

i bought the tp600sa turntable x 2 ....but one was destroyed in shipping.

anyways - got the jcx2900 back today - with the tp600sa - and i bought a pair of JBL 4311 speakers from him - all of this completely restored.

came home and ran the speaker wire and plugged up the bluray/cd player - and played 2 of my tester CDs....Soundgarden and the Cult - needless to say.....a job very well done.

thanks Brent - you had all my gear - and my payment - and i had a little faith - and you came through....in neon blue flying colors.

if i could figure out how to post a picture - i would....or will.  it might make you rethink sanyo....or at least the jcx line of receivers.

faith restored in mankind.

well....unfortunately its over a year and a half since that original transaction....and i cant get the rest of my gear back....and the gear brent took in trade is long gone....and what i did get back "fully restored" has issues. im not thrilled....but im not that surprised either. just the way life is it seems.

bummed.

I am very reluctant to take on a restoration project because most of the parts are way beyond their expected service life. One can completely repair a unit, then have an unrelated failure soon after. Digging up original parts is risky because they are also beyond their expected service life. If I replace a failed component with a modern substitute, is the unit still "vintage"?

In general I find that customers are not prepared for the risk of serial failures of a unit and feel victimized when there is another failure.

yeah - i hear you. but you seem to have skipped over the part where i said i cant get my gear back from brent nor the gear he stole as payment to repair the gear i cant get back from him. i knew it was a crapshoot...turned out to be more of a turd than a crap...anything. the receiver i did get back from him was mint and sounded great when he got it...when i got it back...months later it had nice blue LED lights installed - one flickers - so i recently opened the hood to find.....the thing is as stock as it was the day i bought it. not a thing was done to it...nothing. well, except the cool blue lights.

on another note though.....just goes to show how great sanyo was...and their top of the line receiver....just an excellent machine.

Well...your "transaction" was in 2016, mine was this year (2020). Needless to say after nearly 8 months and promise after promise, nearly a $1000 and in (maybe) in possession of my prized Kenwood amp and tuner, Brent has FAILED to deliver.

Anyone considering this service needs to beware. Don't do it.

Anyone dealing with Brent Huskins or Crossed Paths Vintage of Burleson BEWARE. He's running a scam, has burned many people and I'm one of them. I paid Crossed Paths Vintage $600 to recap my receiver, and when I got my receiver back the unit wasn't working (bias not set correctly). I found out that someone else had already recapped it before Brent had even picked up the receiver. Brent told me he replaced over 150 parts himself, which was a lie and now I'm out $600. Please look at the rest of this thread and you'll see he has been scamming for years and I wish I would have seen this thread before I gave him my money. He sells his services off of ebay and craigslist. Hard price to pay for not doing my due diligence. Buyers BEWARE!

I may be a victim myself. I sent him my amp at the end of October and he will not return calls. He'll message me through Facebook to tell me how backed up they are or now his latest is his daughter is having a baby and he had to leave town. Did you get your amp back at all?

thanks!

Hey there folks, I guess I'm also out of a receiver all together. Sent it in back in August and still nothing keeps making up excuses. I don't even know what to do next

Hello, I am also dealing with Crossed Paths Vintage AKA Brent Huskins of Burlson Texas. He has had my Marantz 2325 since Dec. 2020 with 2 missed completion/return dates on my restoration contract through "EBay". After filing a complaint with Ebay about the unfinished contract I purchased through them, I was contacted by Mr. Huskins of "Crossed Paths Vintage" and told my Marantz 2325 was finished and shipped on April 30th 2021 and provided a UPS tracking number for the shipment. After a 3 day wait, I contacted UPS, only to be told that Mr Huskins had not yet provided the package. Getting antsy again I called him(Brent) and he told me that they had missed their UPS pick-up and he would drop it off in the morning himself. Turns out I wasn't his only customer, and he was busy doing other things, and my next post is the Paul Harvey ( for the old radio people)

As every story out there has 2 sides, I should let you hear mine. I picked up a junk Marantz 2325 that had shorted main outputs, and a fried PWR xmfr. and severe oxidation issues, as a project. I Replaced the xmfr and got some sound out of it but it needed some "PRO" work above my pay grade. Found "Brent Huskins" of "Crossed Paths Vintage" and talked with him by phone and discussed turn-around times, anticapations, shipping concerns, all of which he covered including return shipping. The story was 6-8 weeks turn around, and we all live in a perfect world so I packed my Marantz in 10 lbs of plywood and foam and shipped it and some Money to Texas on 1/3/2021. Brent confirmed receipt of the package and its condition. 8 weeks later I get a notice from Ebay that my unit was shipping. I contacted Brent, who informed me that a winter storm(Feb 10-18) had knocked out the power so he was not able to work and was behind schedule. I understood, and wished him well, but started looking for additional reviews because I was concerned. I discovered these threads and my situation looked similar. So after getting a negative dose of your reality I needed verification that things were good. I called Brent, talked with him and was assured all was good but he was waiting on parts (50 years old) but was hoping to finish it soon. Needless to say I got antsy. Now the nice part, He text me last week with a ship date, the Marantz showed up in the original shipping crate UNDAMAGED, I uncrated it removed the foam, set it up with some baby Bose 301's and spun some vinyl. Everything was clean as new, the lighting awesome, and the sound, Thats why we keep these things alive. Not sure what happened with your story, But Brent is a straight-up guy who does what he says and my Marantz 2325 is the only proof I need. Ya it took 4 months, even with me bothering him, but, can you really get anything Good,Cheap, and Fast???

I also was scammed by Brent from crossed pathes I purchased his complete restoration service for my sansui 9090, after over 6 months and 13 different excuses I finally got back ( only after threatening to file a claim with EBay ) it was supposed to be a total recap, not only was the one thing that was wrong with it when I sent not fixed, he did absolutely nothing to it. It was a working unit when I sent it , I just wanted it completely gone through, and common problems with older electronics addressed as his add claimed he would do. Long story short almost 800 $ later ( cost for restoration service and shipping) I guess I’m lucky I got my beloved 9090 back. Buyer beware
