ohh dear same old bs same old!
first the "laser" sorry the phasering of dolby over dts well different signals are at different levels you may have the dts set up properly and the dd set up pants.
play around with the settings rather than running to mummmy forum to put a plaster on it (persistance pays dividends).
second most discs pause half way through as they change layer (too much info for one just straight play through)live with it !get over one second of your life pausing.
you sound parinoid about your set up dont!
stop analyzing and ENJOY it!!

PS this message was via 10 cans of Grolsch a bottle of absynthe a bottle of 2002 reserve allbeny point merlot (oaked aged) and a bottle of 2002 Villa fovestro Chianti Colli Senesi (sweet red full flavoured cinamon overtones)so i maybe full of s***

DTS plays 4db (at least) louder out of every receiver or processor in existence. Deal with it and turn Dolby up 4db or more to get equivalent volume. You may be interested to know that Dolby generally has more in the LFE channel, while DTS has the bass more spread throughout all 5.1 channels. And Dolby's LFE is generally louder, too.

The layer change will happen in no matter what audio you use, I'm not sure why you're blaming Dolby. Get a Denon 2200 ($600) or 2900 ($1000) if you hate layer changes.

Sounds like you have the dynamic compression mode turned on in your receiver. This is a feature of Dolby that I wish DTS would create, too. With most Dolby recordings you can turn on compression for late night viewing when you want dialog loud enough to hear, but explosions softer to not wake others up. Turn it off to get normal sound.

My 2900 doesn't even skip on Monsters Inc., which is known to be a horrible layer change.

It's a silly issue that Denon overcame in 2 of their machines, but not all of them since their latest $2000 machine doesn't have the fix. Can't explain that, or why no other mfgr has fixed it. There's a buffer in every DVDp in existence, the one in the 2200/2900 is bigger and programmed to allow for about a 2 second delay to be covered, erasing visible layer changes. I'm guessing that the bump from a 2 or 4MB buffer to the 8MB buffer in these 2 machines costs Denon at least another $.50 per unit. Ouch.

Why does every single sub-$100 portable CDp have a 45 second buffer, but no other DVD players can manage to include something like this?
