How to get your AX4000 working with Windows 7.

Before you start, you should make a copy of the folder where the current configuration (if you have one) is stored. If you don't know where it is, search for a file (or files) with a .axe extension. You'll use this later to load the configuration onto the Windows 7 computer.

1) Install the AX4000 software from the original CD. If you have upgraded the version from the CD with a downloaded file, run that upgrade again.
2) Find the executable (AXEditor) on the hard drive (usually Program Files..., Sony..., Nrm..., AX), right click on it and select Properties.
3) On the Compatibility tab, at the bottom, click on the check box for "Run this program as an administrator." If you don't do this, it will complain that it needs to run from an Administrator User Account each time you try to execute it.
4) Insert the original CD into the machine.
5) Plug the remote into a USB port. It will complain that it can't find a driver.
6) Install the USB driver by selecting Control Panel... Hardware and Sound... Device Manager (under Devices and Printers).
7) In Device Manager, an Unknown Device will be displayed.
8) Right click on that device and select Update Driver Software...
9) Select "Browse my computer for driver software" and point it to the CD.
10) It will find and install the driver.

Your AX4000 should now work with Windows 7. To recover the configuration file for the remote, load the folder you saved before starting onto the Windows 7 computer. When you open up the Editor, use File..., Open... to open that .axe configuration file from wherever you loaded it. The Editor will remember that location after that.

Hope this helps.

And if you no longer have the original CD , you can extract the drivers from the .exe file that you can download from Sony.

Install WinRar (WinZip will probably work as well) on your machine and right click on the file and select "extract here".
Amongst the other files are the drivers , so you can follow the instructions above to point 9 and instead of selecting the CD , point to where you extracted the files.

I've just done this on my W7 machine as I needed to reprogram the AX for my new Blu Ray player.

Hope this helops someone else.

*****NOTE: *****TheSony driver will only work for 32 bit machines.
You can download the entire software package at Sony. [Link:]
I tried 5 times, finally "chatted" with Support tonight, and it will not work with the 64 bit Operating System!!!
It was designed for the 32 bit systems only and no updating nor upgrading has been or will be done.
i hope that helps save some of you some time and effort. I could have used the info, yet Sony didn't say it was only for the 32 bit systems... Argh!!
May THE GOD of ALL CREATION Bless You in your endeavors.

Thank you for this post. I have already spent over an hour trying to get this thing to work, and finally cam to your post. Too bad Sony won't clearly state that this remote will not run on 64bit systems. Have a great Holiday and thank you again.

I realize that I am replying to an old thread, but I just wanted to let people know that if they do have one of these, that they could use XP mode on Windows 7 and use it in the virtual environment. It does take a little work if you do not already have it installed, but it does work...
