Hi all,

I have a 32"sony trinitron television that came with a sony universal rm y180 remote. I also have a sony 5.1 surround system str k750p. I do not use a cable box and when i plug the audio output from the tv into the reciever it has a very weak output, the sound from the tv is very low in the stereo, i have to turn it up to max to hear minimum sound. However, when i go into the setup of the tv i can change the sound output to fixed and then the volume levels are great, exactly what i want. the only problem is i can no longer control the sound with my tv remote. I want to program the sony tv remote to control just the volume of the sony reciever. Hopefully this is possible but I have not been able to find a solution online.

Hopefully this isnt too confusing lol. I want to be able to use my tv remote as normal except when i push the volume button it seamlessly works with the reciever. thanks so much for the help!

Sorry but you won't be able to control the receiver volume with the TV remote.

The only programming codes available with the RM-Y180 are for VCR/DVD and SAT/CBL components, which means no receiver codes=no receiver volume control.

A good solution would be a learning remote, such as the Sony RM-VL600/VL610 or the One For All 6820/8820 remotes. With the OneForAll you could use extended codes, described by bodhi78_rc in this thread [Link: remotecentral.com]
