"The ATSC 3.0 proponent receives FCC approval to operate a full-power, single frequency network test platform in Washington and Baltimore on ch. 43. It will broadcast a range of next-gen services that include fixed, portable and mobile capabilities to provide real-time assessments of the new Internet protocol-based standard currently being reviewed by the Advanced Television Systems Committee."

Writing in CED Magazine, Jeffrey Kraus, president of Telecommunications and Technology Policy in Rockville, Md., lists quite a variety obstacles that will have to be overcome if and when ATSC 3.0 becomes a reality.

Surprised that (American) Public Televisions Stations are among the ones leading the lobbying for the FCC to allow the new ATSC 3.0 standard to be migrated with the new station repacking?

Congress isn't expected to vote on the new ATSC 3.0 final standard until 2017.
