Please, I live in mexico and I got an Advent Tv. I dont have the remote, so I bought a 5 in 1 Radio Shack universal remote control. The user guide does not content codes for Advent at all. Can some body give me the codes for an Advent Tv but compatible with the 5 in 1 radio shack remote. Please
Many Thanks

Try the codes listed Jensen or Prima brand Tv's, or these codes 0761, 0817, 0815, 0783, 0842.

You need to be careful using universal remotes with Advent TVs as you can fry the set. See the following threads for more info...

Thanks a lot for the advise, I will be more careful from now. Actualy yesterday I was experimenting with a couple of codes and no response. I dont know what else to do. I live in Juarez, its the border between el paso tx and mexico. So its easy for me to go and return the universal remote, but what should i buy instead??
Many Thanks

I expect that TV/0054 will work at least some of the functions of this TV, but there's a button that's defined as part of that code that will kill your TV and we don't know which button it is yet.

The buttons that should work are the numerics, channel, volume, power, last and sleep. I wouldn't risk pressing any of the others. Here are the advanced codes for all of the functions...

These are the ones that are pre-programmed...
173 num 0
205 num 1
109 num 2
141 num 3
045 num 4
077 num 5
237 num 6
013 num 7
172 num 8
204 num 9
175 vol up
207 vol down
076 mute
177 channel up
209 channel down
044 power
113 last/prev ch
241 sleep

These are the ones that you would have to program yourself...
079 menu
080 stereo
108 +100
206 up arrow
174 down arrow
110 left arrow
142 right arrow
012 display (programmed to EXIT)
178 tv/vcr
018 demo (programmed to SELECT and ENTER)
144 picture (programmed to RIGHT ARROW)
047 closed caption
049 game

The following buttons all have codes programmed to them and any one of them could be the KILL code, so I would advise re-programming all of them with advanced codes...

TV/VCR
MENU
GUIDE
Arrow UP
Arrow DOWN
Arrow LEFT
+100

Robman. Thanks a lot for those codes. I tryied the 0054 code but didnt work. I also tryied the codes that you gave me for each command and didnt work either. There has to be some code that its apropiate for the 15-1908 remote. Im tired of changing the channel by my self. Hahaha...Thanks anyways robman. If anyone knows something extra, please let me know.
Many Thanks

The 15-1908!!, that dates back to about 1992!! I doubt that Advent was even around then.

You should always mention the model number of the remote you are using, especially if it's a museum piece like the 15-1908.

The 15-1908 uses 3-digit setup codes, so the TV code would be TV/054 instead of TV/0054 (and the code is listed in the manual, so it should be present).

I'm not 100% sure of the key sequence needed to program EFCs to individual buttons, but I think this should work...

DEV [PROG] [9] [9] [9] KEY [PROG] d d d

For example, to program EFC 178 to the TV/VCR button, you would do this...

1) Tap the TV device button.
2) Tap the PROG button
3) Type 999
4) Tap the TV/VCR button
5) Tap the PROG button
6) Type 178

In case you need it, here's the online manual for the 15-1908...

Im sorry about the model that I gave, I thought that they where all the same. Im not an expert, not even close guys. This is the real model I bought 15-2115, 5-IN-ONE REMOTE, and you can se the picture here

Im really sorry, my bad. Now that you know the exact model, can you give me a hand? Or maybe there is nothing else to do about it. May be I should be thinking on buying another remote, but, I need to know which brand or model because I dont want to make the same mistake again.
Many Thanks

Well, the 15-2115 does have the TV/0054 code included (it's listed under Philips) but I don't think this remote supports the keymover function, but there's no harm in trying...

For example, to program EFC 178 to the TV/VCR button, you would do this...

1) Tap the TV device button.
2) Hold the SETUP (or P) button, 2 flashes
3) Type 994, 2 flashes
4) Tap the SETUP (or P) button
5) Type 178
6) Tap the TV/VCR button

If you decide to get a new remote, I would recommend either a Radio Shack 15-2116 (which costs about $30) or the One For All URC-8811 (which costs about $19).

Both of these remotes are 8 device learning remotes and both are JP1 compatible, which means if you get yourself a JP1 cable online you can re-program them from your PC to work just about any IR controlled device in the world.

I think the different brands of DirecTV use different codes, but all or most of them should be covered by the built in codes.

If you have trouble finding the URC-8811 locally, I can ship one to you.

The new white UEI remote sold through Directv.com lists five codes for advent tv's. The same five I listed in my first post, but this remote takes 5-digit setup codes, so you would have to add a 1, to the front of each. So they would be, 10761, 10817, 10815, 10783, 10842.
