You know what they say about a fool and his money. I loaded Windows Vista Home Premium on my computer last night and now I cannot install ProntoEdit NG for my TSU3000. When I attempt to run the install it clearly says it cannot be installed and to install it on Windows 98/ME/2000/XP. I know that some people have been successful installing ProntoProEdit but has anyone found a work around for ProntoEdit NG?

Search this forum for +compatibility +mode +vista. You may also want to search the 9600 forum as well. Peter DeWildt has the most experience in this area.

I believe Peter said to right click the install file and set compatibility mode for Windows XP.

Thanks for the replies. I was right clicking on the program but I wasn't seeing anything about compatibility mode but I figured out what I was missing.
  1. Right-click ProntoEdit NG Setup.
  2. Choose Properties.
  3. Click the Compatibility Tab.
  4. Check the checkbox next to Run this program in compatibility mode for:.
  5. Choose Windows XP (Service Pack 2) from the drop down menu.
  6. Click OK
  7. Run ProntoEdit NG Setup.
I was able to install the program, connect my TSU3000 and communicate with it just fine.

Thanks for the post. I thought I was going to be in the same boat now that I upgraded to Vista.

You only need to set compatibility mode for the setup kit. The actual ProntoEdit program runs fine.

FYI - I got the following response from Philips in an e-mail.

Dear Mr Griffith,

Unfortunately it is possible that no official support for Vista will come for the
ProntoNG series. While drivers should work with Vista by default as it is an USB
device and the software should also work, we cannot promise that it will or provide
any proper support regarding it either. We're very sorry for the inconvenience.

We hope we answered your question satisfactorily.

With kindest regards,

Philips Customer Care Center

Luckily for those of us with the older remotes the workaround seems to work just fine.

Funny I got quite a different email... They really have to update the pronto 3000/3500 editor... unless of course they intend to discontinue the 3500...

Dear Mr/Mrs …..,

Recently you have asked us about: Windows Vista and ProntoEdit

Philips HQ has been informed that the ProntoEdits are not compatible with Windows Vista.

Please check the website regularly where the new Edits will be placed.

We hope we answered your question satisfactorily.

With kindest regards,

Harry Schut

Did you try rebooting?

ProntoEdit still works fine for me under Vista.

Everything works fine for me under Vista. I was just sharing Philips' response. That's interesting that they told rkba_net something different.

It is still buggy, and crashes even with this every once in a while. I just save often in Vista :)
