I have practiced learning IR codes both directly through the Pronto itself and also through the PPENG software. I find that both seem to work (though I experience many more failed learns through PPENG), but I am not sure if I am getting what are called "dirty" learns or what, because every time I learn through PPENG, the listing of the HEX code is different. I try each several times to get consistent numbers, but never do. The batteries in OEM remote are new (changed for this task), BTW. Any recommendations for going about this? I was going to learn EVERY button regardless of whether it was in the built in database or not, but I may consider using everything from those that works and only learn what I need to. I am not sure what to do here...

The codes won't look exactly the same each time you learn it. There is a little variation which is negligable as far as the function of the code is concerned. If you look at each learn, each 4 digit section should be very similar.

Original remotes get lost or break. When I get a new device, I learn all the buttons from its remote and store them in a file on a PC. You never know if you'll still have the original remote when you decide you want some obscure function.

Usually there is no need to worry about dirty learns. But if you are worried enough that you were wasting time learning the same button multiple times, it would be easier to get programs for decoding Pronto Hex and for reencoding clean Pronto Hex.

I suggest using my DecodeCCF.exe with DecodeIr.dll for decoding all the IR signals in a CCF file and Using my MakeHex program for reencoding.

Thanks. I downloaded your programs and will give those a shot. So far I have programmed one complete remote (Samsung DynaFlat Analog TV, 2091F). I have been able to get all buttons to "learn" except for the "SET" button. I've tried both methods endless times and all buttons will learn except for this one. Always fails.

Sure, no prob. How would I go about this? I'm aware of members uploading their PCFs to the site, which I plan on using a lot of personal photos throughout mine so I wouldn't want to do that, but as far as codes, sure.

You could strip your PCF into individual device files if you wanted, or upload your system but take out personal stuff.

Thanks. I just bookmarked the URL. I'll definitely do so once I get close to being finished, as the help I've received thus far from this forum and site has been very valuable.
