I just looked at the SmartConnect web site and there's no hyperlink to the ProntoEdit v1.05 yet. But, I know it's there, I downloaded it. It seems to have Sys v3.65 and App v4.85 included with it. If there's no hyperlink to it yet, it might not be ready for official release....

Since I received an email that it will be out today or tomorrow, I'd say it's pretty ready. I've already put it on RC.

I noticed the build date for this version was from last March 20, 2000. I would think that the date from the build would have been more resent.

A build date of March 20 could be a good sign, maybe it's been in test since then! ;^)

I downloaded it but got an error message "ordinal 6880 could not be located in the dynamic link library MFC42.dll I am using a Win NT O/s- perhaps that might be the problem??

Read the "Read me first" link on the Smart Connect site. This explains how to fix this message.

I didn't find the "read me first" link on the smart connect site. What I did to get around the problem was to rename the file c:\windows\system\MFC42.DLL to something else and change the new file (which was install in the same directory, but named something like mfc42.1) to the MFC42.DLL name. For some reason I had to do this in MS-DOS mode instead of win95 mode.

Installed it without any trouble at all. Pleased to say that it no longer replaces your Gallery on installation!!! Checked it out with CCF Explorer and there are no changes to the CCF file format. Even the version stored in the CCF is exactly the same. The list of fixes is good: Firmware: - left and right keys now propagate from home panel - can learn B&O and Kenwood high freq codes - hotspot in footer that jumped to home eliminated - sometimes close mouse label was wrongly displayed ProntoEdit: - backlight related reboot fixed - update of firmware improved to avoid compatibility problems - NT/2000 missing pronto.css file fixed - missing dll files on install fixed What I don't understand is why the reboot fix is listed as a fix to ProntoEdit rather than to Firmware, especially when I don't see any change to the CCF file format????

I had to flush my browser history to get the updated smartconnect web site. But if you can't get to it here's the readme post.... Before you install ProntoEdit:
Features: Make sure you close all other programs. Beware if you have plug-ins running (the little icons in the system tray, on the right side of the taskbar). When active, these plug-ins might still hinder the installation of ProntoEdit. If after installation you get the following error message when trying to run ProntoEdit: "The PRONTOEDIT.EXE is linked to missing export MFC42.DLL : 6880" either the correct version of the DLL has not been installed (e.g., because the original version of the DLL was loaded by a running program), or another version of this DLL is available in your path. Try the following:
rename the MFC42.DLL in the windows system directory (e.g., to "MFC42_orig.DLL") if this is not possible, the DLL is in use by another program; close all programs (including those in the system tray) until you are able to rename the DLL reinstall ProntoEdit If the same error appears again, another version of the DLL is available to ProntoEdit. In this case, try the following: use Find - Files or Folders (in the Start menu) to get a list of all existing copies of MFC42.DLL on your hard disk(s) rename them one by one (e.g., to "MFC42_orig.DLL") and try ProntoEdit until the error disappears After following these instructions ProntoEdit should be able to work with the correct version of the MFC42.DLL from the windows system directory. All your software that used the older version of MFC42.DLL that was on your system will also work with this newer version.

From what I can tell, ProntoEdit v1.05 fixes the following: * Random remote rebooting when backlight used * Emulator crash in Windows NT * Unselectable buttons with negative positional coordinates are saved * Left/Right buttons don't propagate to all devices * VBAJET32 crash after installation * "Invalid Configuration" error message after updating older remote firmware

I can't think of any bugs that have not been fixed. (Font problems have almost certainly been in the Windows domain, rather than a Philips problem.)

Right... the alias font problem was a Windows problem; the "remote not connected" bug seems to be more PC serial communications. Anyone remember any other bugs I can check out?
