If you can wire the light and the fan to work
off of seperate wall switches, then you can use
the X-10 switches and an IR to RF module (model
543) that will turn on/off, the fan, light or
both. The fan will only come on at the speed
set on the fan itself, but I have found I normally
only use one speed (medium) most of the time.
Another side benefit to doing it this way is that
the light will also be dimable, even if it wasn't
able to be dimed originally on the fan. (Yes,
the fan can be slowed with the diming feature
too but not sure if the reduced power to it is
good for it or not, but may work just fine, heck,
give it a try!)
Actually the X10 modules are NOT rated for celing fans and it is not a good idea to run the fans through them. Of course you could still get an IR to RF converter and just use that directly with the
Hampton Bay signals.
