I downloaded the new stuff yesterday. I too have noticed a few bugs (L/R hard keys) but that was no big deal...until this.

I downloaded Daniel's keyboard as a starting point for the Philips IR Keyboard I got from Jack. I had redone my whole CCF to use Dale's graphics. I was almost finished, having learned every key except enter, delete, arrows, and capslock.

I started having trouble when I was trying to learn (Pronto only) the caps lock key. This button was on the first panel (small). Suddenly for no known reason the Pronto would reboot when it was displaying the full keyboard panel in my full CCF. I thought this weird so I decided to work with the keybaord alone, even though I had over 23% memory left in my normal CCF.

I made a CCF with the keyboard only and downloaded it to the Pronto so that I could work with it alone.

NOW HERE IS THE REAL PROBLEM...THE PRONTO WILL DO NOTHING BUT REBOOT AS SOON AS THE FULL KEYBOARD SCREEN COMES UP.

I can't download my normal CCF beacuse Prontoedit says the Pronto is not connected. The pronto is in use or something useless is the "detailed" message that Pronto Edit gives. This is a terrible bug in either the firmware or Prontoedit.

I had merged Daniel's keyboard CCF with mine and downloaded. Everything was fine. I learned all the keys and everything was fine. I did some cleanup and re-downloaded and POOF...the reboot started on the fullscreen keyboard in my full CCF. I downloaded a keyboard only device and now all the happens is Pronto reboots.

I have tried to get to setup (pressing the Pronto icon) so that I might use revert but the reboot happens too quickly.

CAN ANYONE HELP? EMAIL, POSTS, SMOKE SIGNALS ALL WELCOME.

And wouldn't you know it would happen just as I was about to upload the Philips IR Keyboard to the site!

TIA
Carl

Have you tried loading the 1.03 version of the software and trying to reload that way?

Dale,

I can't get a connection because of the constant reboot. How will 1.03 help that?

I guess that Microsoft isn't the only company that makes shitty software and has uses Unknowingly participate in the "beta" program.

Carl,

I suggest you download the default CCF (the one that comes with ProntoEdit) or another CCF which you know works with the current version of the firmware. You can do this as follows:

1. hook up your Pronto to your PC
2. open a terminal program and connect it to the port to which your Pronto is hooked up at 115200 baud, 8 bits data, 1 stop bit and no flow control
3. reset your Pronto and hit ESC in your terminal program window, a prompt should appear
4. type 'dl ccf' followed by return
5. download the CCF using the XModem protocol
6. when the download has finished, type 'go' followed by return

You should now be back in business.

If this doesn't help, please post again on this forum. I'll read it either later this weekend or monday morning (PT).

Regards,

Jan

Carl... have you checked/recharged/replaced the pronto's batteries lately? My Pronto starts doing reboots, blackouts, etc... when the battery gets low, but recovers when I've given it a full new charge. Just a thought.

Thanks all, not working yet but "Jan is the Man"
I think this is definitely a case where ONLY someone one the inside can help. This seems like a real bear. I use the rechargable battery, and it is full. Think this is a legitimate FATAL bug. Jan, I have the CCF and will be glad to send it along if you would like it.

WDT reset!

Booting...
CABERNET>dl ccf<<<

I can ONLY ever get the Pronto to "escape" at this point. After that I can NOT get it to download.

Should I get the sledgehammer?

Carl I had the same problem with one of my CCF, the pronto would just constantly reboot

after about 2 hours fiddling I managed to get it to come alive again, by downloading the OS software, this is achieved by choosing the
Tools - Update Pronto

Menu option, this requires you to hit the reset on the back of the Pronto, after which the software takes control before the Pronto boots, It then re-downloads the OS etc...

and reboots, If it asks you to download the existing configuration, coose skip as this caused me problems

After you do this you should have a Pronto which was the same as when you opened the Box.

BTW I did this with the pronto 1.03 software version, altho Im sure It'll be no different with 1.04

Hope it goes well (I was VERY happy when mine came back to life :o) )

I have found the following fix for a continous loop. I have been able to fix 3 prontos that have beeen put into a continous loop. After working through hyperterminal with minimal success, I decided to retrace my steps in terms of where I started seeing problems with Pronto edit some time ago.

To fix your pronto, download RC 5000 version 1.01.04. Build date June 30 1999. Upload your CCF file from the Pronto. You will find that the file you have uploaded is corrupt. Perhaps a blend of other files. Do not run emulator!! You may crash your system. Delete all of the devices leaving only the home page. Press the reset button and Update the pronto. If it doesnt start, try again. Sometimes the screen needs to be touched just initiate communiation. Let it do its procedure. It will say that the pronto has been updated but you will still show the revert screen. Dont worry. Now download your ccf with only the start screen. It should load and reset to original. You should be done.

I have programmed in excess of 100 RC 5000s and Prontos. I have run into this problem a few times.
It even can corrupt the pronto edit file in your PC to the point where you cant even save a CCF. It is horribly frustrating and if you dont work with the things every day it is difficult to derive a solution. For the time being, I am only running version 1.03 of the software as it seems to be the most reliable. This is a serious problem that Philips seems to have no solution for at present. Hope this helps you.

Carl,

Can you do a capture of everything output by your Pronto from one WDT reset until the next and mail it to: [email protected]? I will look at it first thing monday morning.

After you type 'dl ccf' + return and you wait a while, does the Pronto keep sending C's until you start the download? It should. Did you select the right protocol in Hyperterm? You have to use XModem. Personally, I prefer 'Teraterm Pro (sp?)', a freeware terminal emulator which you should be able to find on the internet (I don't have a URL handy).

Jan

Jan, sorry for the delay in my responce to your questions. The problem with HyperTerminal was momentary (although it didn't seem so at the time.) On my first several attempts, I typed "dl ccf" at the FIRST cabernet prompt, without success. On the subsequent successful attempts I hit the return several times and then typed the "dl ccf" and got the string of C's.

I used hyperterminal cause I had it handy on a Saturday afternoon. Don't do too much terminal connecting anymore.

BTW - anyword on the "killer" CCF I sent or ETA of some fix for 1.04?

Carl,

I posted this question before reading in another thread that you had managed to restore your Pronto to a working state (i.e. it was no longer relevant).

I have not heard from Leuven yet about the CCF you sent me.

Jan

I had the same problem with the Pronto keeping re-booting. Using Hyperterminal to replace the defective .ccf as described above worked fine. Thank you.
