Has anyone managed to get the Pronto to learn the up/down value wheel commands from any Panasonic S-VHS unit? The wheel is required for programming the VCR--you use it to increment or decrement values such as the time, channel, speed, and so on. The problem is that the wheel clicks from one value to the next very quickly, and I imagine it sends out a similarly brief IR pulse when you use it. The Pronto apparently can't learn that command quickly enough, and it just makes the "FAIL" beep every time.

I was able to get my Marantz RC-2000 remote to learn this command after about half a billion wheel clicks, but this hasn't worked from the Pronto. Oddly, when I try to teach the Pronto the command from the RC-2000, the Pronto can't learn it that way, either. Anyone have any ideas?

I've toyed around with the idea of finding an el cheapo multipurpose remote that can do the value wheel commands and trying that, but I'd hate to waste even more money on that just to discover it won't work, either. Any alternative ideas would be appreciated.

I have a panasonic S-VHS unit, and with enough playing, I got the Pronto to learn the wheely commands sooner or later. It was tricky, but it happened. When ProntoEdit comes out (refrain of the month), it ought to be possible to share the codes. Until then, I can only tell you that I jiggled it enough until it worked. -- Ken

I have the panasonic as well, I just rotated the wheel "clicked" once and the pronto learned it. I used an "up arrow" when the wheel is rotated up and a "down arrow" when the wheel is rotated down, plus I used an enter key on the pronto when I pushed the wheel "in" on the panasonic.

Everything worked first time, with no problems since.

Get the wheel click learned. With ProntoEdit, import a wheel bmp and place arrow bmp icons as buttons around it. I've done so for my LD player, works(and looks) great.

Thanks for all the replies. I was finally able to get the wheel click to be learned by the Pronto. I had to hold the remote a good distance away from the IR eye on the Pronto, and try it about fifteen times, but it finally took. Thanks for the encouragement. Now I have NO problems whatsoever with the Pronto! What a nice piece of engineering.
