I'm looking for a Pronto (Marantz 5000) dealer
here in Denmark or Europe.

Klaus,

At the moment Pronto is only sold in the US, and there is no European release planned yet. You will have to order on from the US

Sort of ironic, since everything from the Pronto iteself to the manual and the batteries it comes with are made in Belgium.

I was quite curious about this one and mailed Philips belgium and asked them about release in europe but they didn't even know about the pronto!!! Well, I just sent one message and maybe it was just some secretary answering who didn't want to spend a lot of work in researching my question.
btw: I think someone said Pronto was developed in California?

although we here in the UK should be used to being screwed every which way when it comes to AV kit, I emailed Philips UK to ask about the Pronto and they told me there was no UK release planned.
I'd like to say I'm surprised.
Anyone know of anyone in the UK (or the US) importing the Pronto to Europe???

I think most US mail order houses will ship to the UK, though shipping may be expensive if you want it in a hurry. There's a thread further down entitled "Prontos for sale" with over a dozen places to buy them from. I'm sure a few would be more than happy to oblige our friends in the UK.

The problem when ordering stuff from outside
the EU - is that the package very often get
snatched by the customs and I'll have to pay an
additional 25% tax plus expences here in denmark.
This will make the Pronto way to expensive !
That's why I am looking for an importer in UK,
Denmark or any other country in the EU !!

...except it's not sold in the UK. It's a catch-22: Pay more, get it now, or don't pay at all and hope in the next few months they'll become available. Well, more like a Catch-20.

It's possible a few stores will order a whole batch in from the US (that's what's happened bofore here in Canada) but right now I'm not aware of any.

a helpful person...

The Pronto is manufactured in Belgium (Leuven) by Philips Remote Control Systems (RCS), one of the top three remote control manufacturers in the world. It was created in Palo Alto, California at the Philips Multimedia Center. The development team consisted of people of several nationalities :-) It was originally proposed by an Englishman living in California (yours truly).

It's a small world, after all...
