I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on where to buy the Philips Pronto, online or not? I am currently looking to buy around May and was wondering if I should look into buying it early as I might have to wait.

Thanks,
Dan

I'm with you Dan! I can't find the Pronto online anywhere from a major vendor. I don't think it's worth $399. Maybe $299 but even that is a little steep. I heard if you own a Palm Pilot II or III you can get software and hardware to turn it into a programable universal remote. The Palm Pilot PDA costs only $299 (from NECX) for heaven sake. Just a thought...

Please let me know if the pronto can be had at $299 from a major vendor. Otherwize I'm getting the Palm Pilot III.

Thanks!
Tim

What a mistake that would be. I already have the palm III and wouldn't consider using it as a whole-system remote. It just isn't designed to do that.

If your price point really is between 299 and 399 just wait. The price will come down. But I think its worth every penny of 399. You can find prices all over this site from 329 to 399. Jump all over one of them. It's a kick ass product that will only get better with software support.

My theater has already become a friendlier place with 8 remotes going into the drawer.

Tim, by the time you've converted a Pilot III with extra software and hardware, you've already spent more than a Pronto costs. I'd also suggest you have a solution that's inferior to a Pronto, when used as a remote control.

Enough people think it's good value at that price that dealers can't keep them in stock. Value is a subjective thing, however, and it may be a solution to a problem you don't have. I can see why you might think it's not worth $399 to you - but please consider that it might be worth that much to other people.
