I have a TSU2000 that has an odd battery issue.
When I run it with AA Dry Cells (1.5 volts each), it shuts down and resets after using it for 20-30 seconds.
All of the memory is retained, but it will not stay on.
When I use a set of Nimh rechargeable Sanyo batteries (1.2 volts each), it works fine, but the battery meter always reads out less than 1/2 full, even when they are completely charged.
Are the 1.5 volt dry cells giving it too much total voltage (1.5 x4=6 volts) vs. the Nimh rechargeables (1.2 x 4=4.8 volts)?
Also, the Sanyos won't recharge with the Pronto recharging base. I suspect the Philips rechargeable nimh pack has a chip in it which recognizes the charging base.
Should the TSU2000 be used only with the Philips rechargeable pack?

First, start by cleaning the battery contacts with a pencil eraser. Be gentle to avoid breaking them.

Then, try your test gain.

I've tried that, and even used an industrial grade contact cleaner/enhancer, but same results.
