Happy New year Prontophiles:

Just received my Pronto from Metronet yesterday, and first impressions are very positive. This system is a first-rate example of industrial and s/w design.

Have already programmed in most of my source devices without any trauma, and am now tackling the Meridian 565/562V.

Before getting too far into this, I'd appreciate any guidance from anyone who's already done an M5xx controller. Example: Did you adapt the default 'PreAmp' template or make a new one? The immediate problem with PreAmp that I see is it only supports 9 source components. Did you use the A.Proc template for the dsp configs?

Any help will be appreciated.

Peter,
I'd hang out for the ProntoEdit PC software. Meridian uses RC-5 codes which are easily manipulated (displays the actual RC-5 code on screen) so it's far easier to do the setups.
The other advantage is that when the codes are learned exactly, they will also display the RC-5 code rather than the std (learned) text so you know the code is accurate.
Just a suggestion.

I have a 561 and I'm taking Jacks advice.
Wait before you go crazy, it won't do quite what I want anyway as it stands without the PC software.

Hi, I've used the standard templates to work our Meridian 861 (same remote as the 565) with very good sucess. There was a compass template that I've used for the arrows and I've also used this compass in a number of the source functions template (CD, TV) to allow for DSP changes with the source. We use about 6 sources and am used very little (really just source selections) of the pronto's preamp templates.

Peter,
I have just come from the mountain (CES) and rest assured that anything you'll need to be doing with Meridian products will be well supported. Consider that Bob Stuart at Meridian has Prontos (known fact). Need I say any more?
I would expect that we may see some interesting and powerful CCF postings when the software releases coming form somewhere in the south of England.

I hate to be pedantic, but as an Englishman I have to set the record straight :-) Meridian is based in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, which is far from being considered southern England. I used to live in a small market town (St. Neots) a little south of Huntingdon, and west of Cambridge.

I also hate to be pedantic, yet I'm maried to a lass for Cheshire and they consider Cambridgeshire to be in the south of England, with respect to the nasty North. My BIL is a grad of that fine college and it's far from the north.
Cheers AHP.

Jack,

When you are in a hole stop digging!

I think what you are referring to is a graduate of Cambridge University. That itself is made up of a number of colleges.

I'd agree with AHP, it is in East Anglia, which although in the bottom half cannot be considered "Southern England". But then I'm a true southerner. Anything north of Regent's Park is in the wilderness as far as I'm concerned.

Tim.

Jack - as an expatriate Mancunian, I definitely agree with your wife that Huntingdon is South, well South-easterlyish. Also I believe the correct phraseology is Bloody Yorkshireman, and before anybody asks we don't still keep the coal in bath oop North.

BTW my wife's from Cheshire too, the posh bit (Marple).

Great news about Meridian and Pronto - thanks for the update.
