I went to go use the pronto this morning and I got more "button misses" than normal. Maybe it's in my head after reading the other thread. I don't if humidity or temp makes any difference but the weather recently changed pretty dramtically (cold and dry).
Maybe other folks are doing something similar. I'm trying to teach myself to only use the pressure that's needed to save wear and tear on the unit.
I removed the screen protector and no change. I then tried my finger nail. WOW what a difference. You can tap ever so lightly and ever so quickly and get a hit every time.
Try it.

The fingernail is definitely the way to go. Works everytime & eliminates schmudging, and as you say only a very light tap is needed as all pressure is concentrated on tiny surface.

I also ended up using my finger tip/nail.
But I also have discovered that some areas of my screen are more sensitive than others. The lower left corner needs but the barest of touches to activate a button there. The rest needs fairly decent pressure. I hope this isn't a sign of defectiveness, or wear (this early).
