I'd like to fully integrate a PS3 into a Nevo system (which includes an NC-50). I've seen a few gizmos that claim to do this, but don't know much about them. Does anybody have experience with these things or care to make any specific recommendations?

He claims it works pretty good, but I haven't had the time to try it myself. The cool thing about this solution is that since it converts IR to Bluetooh, there is no "hacking" of your PS3.

Nyko (and many others) make a USB/IR dongle that works great on the PS3.

The only down side is there is no power on. I need to get up anyway to put a movie/game in so it's no big deal. The ir2bt has power on.

Doesn't it seem like something more direct might be preferable/reliable? There appear to be units that control via one of the PS3's USB ports; it appears that a USB dongle must just accept IR and directly input the command. (Again, I need to read up a little more.)

Don't know why Sony didn't just put something like an IR port on the back. :(

The USB solutions do NOT work as well as the bluetooth solutions. Only a few commands are accepted over USB versus BT.

Using Nyko I can control all aspects of media playback.

I have not found any limitation in every day use (apart from power ON) usning the Nyko.

I am using a Nevo Q50 and S70 through a Nevo Connect.

The Nyko (and others like it) are a good, basic solution (heck we hacked the same solution together months before those companies duplicated it), but it is the difference between ~16 and 51 controls, and being able to turn the PS3 on by remote.

Whether that's worth the money is up to the buyer, but it's best not to lump the USB and BT control solutions together as they don't do the same things.

Do you use the Nyko remote itself, or did you learn the commands into the Nevos? Any chance the actual IR codes are available? I'm sure I'm not alone in having found learned commands a little less reliable sometimes.

The Nyko codes are in the Nevo online database. As good as the original remote.

I just took another look at the IR2BTci. This truly is a powerful product. I would agree that the two should not be put in the same basket.

Thanks for sharing those! I haven't decided which product to use yet, but those will certainly come in handy for me, or anybody else, who chooses to use the Nyko.

I have been using the PS3-IRX1 with my Nevo Q50 for over six months. It plugs into the front USB port and blends in very well. It only uses IR so there is no power-on or eject commands. I dont find this to be a problem because the system turns on when you insert a disk anyway. You can power off with a macro command. The system uses the standard PS2 remote codes that you can find on the Nevo software.

No problems and its much cheaper ($35) than a Bluetooth system ($100).

As far as not having the same functions as the Bluetooth system, I dont know how many functions you really need to play a DVD or navigate menus. The lack of power-on is the only difference I can notice.
