I'm installing some panel lights behind my plasma, and they only have a rocker switch for ON/OFF. Of course, I could simply plug them into a switched outlet on one of my components, but I want more control than that. I'd like to be able to turn them on/off from my Q50.

Any suggestions for a simple solution? I basically just need to be able to toggle an AC device, and I could use either IR or serial. I'd probably prefer serial but it's not critical.

Hi,

Xantech have a device for this.
Can't remember it product number.

I’m sure that there are plenty of IR/relay controlled switched outlets available. Try Google.

Thanks for that. Maybe I'm not looking for the right thing- the Xantech unit that seems to fit the bill (the AC2) costs $269....is that the price range for I'll have to consider to control these panel lights?? (That's way more than the lights themselevs!) I was thinking this would just be some inexpensive little device, but maybe I was wrong.

Hey Brodyboy, I'd wait a few more weeks and purchase a Z-Wave Controlled Receptacle - in a few weeks time we'll most likely see a software and firmware update for the Nevo's so you'll be able to control any Z-Wave compliant appliance directly from the remote. Z-Wave Receptacles are about $50. If not in a weeks - probably before the end of the year. They showed the beta version working at CEDIA.

Cheers,

Thanks much for that, Droo. I was kind of hoping for something like this, so that's pretty exciting news. I can certainly wait if that's coming soon.

Do you know if this will be one of those things where we have to check "compatibility lists" or should all z-wave devices work once they open it up?

Its suppose to work with all Z-Wave compliant devices because with Z-Wave there is only one manufacture of the Z-Wave chip. This makes compatibility issues mute.
I can't remember what brand of switches they were using at CEDIA but I know they were controlling an HAI Z-Wave Thermostat.
