Hey there, Im new to programming remotes so this has been fun experience for me. But my lack of knowledge is causing me some headaches. The remote is a Nevo Q50 so I’m using their database for codes when adding items. Problem is, I can’t seem to get the right code for a specific item such as My Pioneer Elite: VSX-91TXH. I get a list of codes but nothing with the exact model match. Anyone of them seems to work but its missing buttons or actions. I know how to teach the remote specific buttons or actions but its VERY time consuming. Any suggestions on how or where to get the exact match in code and how I would access it from the source since, Nevo Q50 using Studio Pro, DL’s it straight from their database.

Thank you, Merry Christmas and a Happy Holidays :)

*Also, if someone knows a good tutorial link that would explain how to run or make animated functions/icons, I would appreciate that as well*

Hi,

Find a code group that matches most of the commands that you need.
Then click on the "Advanced Keys" tab. The latest codes will be there.

Syd,

Thanks for the reply... I tried that with each code available and each would only show a list of individual buttons or commands down the right side of the screen, under the hardware section.

what im understanding from your post is, if i was to click the "advanced Keys" tab after i was to DL the latest code, closest to my model number, I would get a additional list of codes, is that correct?

The only thing i can do after doing what you have suggested is add the needed buttons manually, one by one... ?

You should try model based setup instead of the internal db.

I'd select the one that most closely matches the unit you have (try last years modelif there oare not exact matches). go ahead and see which commands don't work and jusr go back and learn those specific commands. You have to do this even if it has your model sometimes have to add-in or correct a command that either isn't there or doesn't function. The closest model usually works for instance, I use the Panasonic BD10 since the BD30 isn't there, With my 3808ci, many of the ZOne 2 commands aren't there, so despite the fact the exact model was there, I wanted a command that wasn't. In both cases a little learning from the original remote is required.

thanks everyone for your suggestions, it's obvious I need to complete my remote manually which is fine. I was hoping to have a quick DL and i was finished except for deleting unwanted buttons and shifting some screens around. Never the less, the remote is awsome and a real breeze to program for the most part.
God forbid i get a macro to work :(... in due time i will though. I'm just a busy person lately that I'm unable to sit down and plug away at it for long periods at a time.

thanks again...

Ddarche: what exactly is "model based setup"?

Model based setup is an option which comes up when you add a device. It is the last listing in the table. You must have registered your software to use it. When you select model based setup, you can put very specific model #'s into a search which goes to the master UEI database online and gives you very crisp search results by model. WAY beter than any other method of adding a device to your config.

I can't remember using any other add-device method, such as internal database, etc. Except to learn in commands from another remote.

As far as macros, the first time I did one of these I sat down with the remotes and planned out one activity at a time. I would physically use the remotes - from everything powered off - and write down every keypress I did until I had it down. I did the same thing for every activity from power off. Next I did the same thing from a "changing what I was watching" perspective (going from watching DVD to watching another source - like TiVo), until I had all my "change" macros down. I also put together a "Power Down" macro in the same fashion.

After that I programmed it, noted what commands went unresponded to and made sure that the individual command actually worked (sometimes this requires a temporary page with individual commands for testing). If not, I relearned the command and tried again. If the command actually worked then you probably need a delay in there to have the command wait until the device is ready to receive a command.

Last I would sit down with my device and figure out what commands I would actually use from the original remote and discard the rest.

After that you are done other than aesthetics - which always need tweking as you find new graphics, etc. Don't get discouraged, it takes a while to get the ball rolling the first time, but when it does, it rolls VERY well

Dave, that's exactly what I’ve been doing. The database is UEI but when I enter my model number in I get a list of similar models but not the exact one. I’ve been taking the closest model listed and adding or deleting buttons.

Ckelly, I've been trying to do that but i seem to fail everytime when i add them as a quick launch.. working on it though :)

With the Nevo Connect, do i have to add the codes to it as well? Or is it used like a bridge between 2 points to extend the range?

I'm not too sure how to use it...

in nevo studio pro, look a the upper right corner, choose the Nevo ecosystem tab and click add hardware. Follow instructions and choose which devices are direct IR (line of sight, like your TV) and which need the Nevoconnect (in the cabinelt/closet). Beyond that, you don't need any extra codes. Your macros may need delays added here and there if something isn't working right. For instance if your receiver ALWAYS powers on but never changes input on power up, it probably needs a delay in between power on & the input select signal. Start at 1000ms and work up until it works appropriately. If your TV needs an input change it might need the same thing.

Ckelly,

The Nevo Connect now has the software available, thank you. Now, each item/hardware has an option from 1-6 to assign it as outgoing data only, yet the "Legend" shows other options such as "unavailable, available, data out and data in" when i click 1 of the 6 for each item, it only allows me to assign it as Data out or available... what am I doing here?

I was a little confused about this at first as well. When programming the ports for the NevoConnect using this chart, you should basically think of it like this:
Red=IR device
Green=Sensing device
Red/Green=Serial

Based upon the devices that are in the chart at the time, you will only see it's respective colored dot when you've assigned it to a port(s). Meaning, if you are only working with IR devices, you will only see red dots on this chart. If you add (Video and/or Power) sensors or serial devices, then you'll the other colored dots.

The color of the dot only helps you see at a glance, what your NevoConnect is controlling and what ports these devices are assigned to.

The only time you'll see the grayed out "Unavailable" option is if you assign a serial device to a port and you'll notice that the rest of the port cannot be programmed for since the port will be completely occupied by the serial accessory. There are a few other times when you'll see the unavailable option, but that's just an example.

I hope this helps.
