I'm looking to upgrade my URC MX-850 and have been considering trying a Nevo Q50.

I have a Mac Mini in my theater room which I use with a Slimdevices Transporter (music server). The Transporter uses a web browser to access the music library and it appears the Nevo Q50 does have a built in browser?

I would use Bootcamp on the Mac for programming the Nevo but will use OS X as my primary OS.

While it's not a dealer breaker if I can't access my Transporter as my main interest is form and function.

Would I be paying for features that I can't use because of my OS choice and possibly be better served looking elsewhere for a new remote?

Thanks in advance,

Mark

Hi Yatch,

You are correct. The Q50 canot access the streaming data like the SL can. However...

You can use the Nevo to replicate the functions of the Mac Mini (using the MAC Media Centre) so if you had the GUI on a TV screen (possibly using video distribution) then there would be no need for the advanced function. You may also need some way of distributing the audio. I don't have a MAC or a Slimdevices transport so I don't know if it will support the audio streaming direct from the back of the Mac.

Sorry Yatch, but the NevoQ50 does not have a built in browser because it does not have WiFi built in. You might have been thinking about a future remote that Nevo is going to bring out called the NevoS70.

Thanks for the replies boys.

The Q50 appears to be a fantastic remote that I would be happy with, but with the limited info I can uncover on this new remote, I'm not 100% certain this remote will keep me happy in the future.

I really like the layout of the Q50, especially for DVR use. One of the issues that may sway me back to a URC (MX 980) is the support from fellow enthusiasts. It appears that many more URC users and installers would be available to offer their help and skins to the end user.

Decisions... decisions.

Well, I've installed NevoStudio Pro and they have included a whole new set of attractive buttons and backgrounds to the galleries, so I’m happy with the look and feel of the remote… I’ve also imported a couple of Pronto configurations to use what others have done

Yatch, does the transporter accept IR control and would this suit your needs?

Also, what does the transporters web server look like? If it is very wide you are not going to be happy viewing it on an s70. I would suggest (if you are able) borrowing a nevo SL from someone and see if you are able to set it up with your transporter. I would have to speculate that they would be very similar.
Well, my name's Dewey Oxburger. My friends call me Ox. I dont know if you've noticed, but I got a slight weight problem.
