Hi there,

I've just done the 1.8 update on my PS3 and noticed that it now recognises my Twonkyvision media server. I currently use a DSM520 as the playback target with my SL and was wondering if I could dump the 520 and use the PS3 instead.

I tried setting the playback target in Nevo Studio but the software won't find the PS3.

I know this is a long shot as the PS3 update only came out today(!), but does anyone know if the SL can be configured to use the PS3 as a playback target or whether NEVO will support it?

Cheers,

Phil

Hi Phil,

I've also done the 1.8 update yesterday and I was really excited obout the new features.
I managed to playback mp3s and a few Videos with NERO Home.
First thing I recognized was that the PS3 doesn't support all codecs yet. MP3s are working fine.
I also saw the Nevo Media Server on the PS3 but I wasn't able to connect to it.
I'll try to setup Nevo Media Server and maybe Twonkey too this weekand and I'll check back here when I got it to work. Just dont really have the time this weekend but I'm too excited to get it work since Media Server never worked with my Pinnacle ShowCenter and Windows SBS 2003.

And also want to mention that you should check the Twonkey Homepage/Forum I think Ive seen there a post about PS3 with the 1.8 Update and Twonkey.

Cheers,

Cheers for the heads up about the Twonky release m8. I've installed it and whilst video codec support is a bit better, some VOB files still play either without sound or in stereo instead of 5.1 Dolby (they play fine on the 520).

And I don't hold out much hope of NEVO controlling the PS3 as a playback device due to the way the PS3 works, but we live in hope!

I've been playing around with UPnP and my PS3 now as well. I can get it to work with Windows Media Player 11 (MP3s and MPEG2 files only) and Nero MediaHome, which supposedly transcodes things.

Unfortunantly the transcoding for DiVX/XVid/MKV files doesn't work well for me in almost all situations. I can get an image, however the video stutters and is 3-5 seconds behind the audio (probably 3-5 minutes after I watch for a while). And this is being served from a QX6700 quad core system over gigabit wired.

Hi,

Ive tried a lot with no success. I can see the Nevo Media Server on the PS3 but its unable to connect.
I gave it up and work with NERO Home.
I wait and hope that the Nevo team will fix it.

Keep in mind it may not be an issue with the Nevo SL and may be an issue with the UPnP version Sony is using on the PS3.

Maybe but since Nero Home, WMP11, TVersity and Twonky are working my thoughts are that it is a Nevo issue. Im not into programming and UPnP Versions. Just thinking simple as I describe.

The Nevo is, in comparison to Nero and D-Link, a device that is not automatically implemented into a developers plan (sony in this case). So if Sony brings out an update for the UPnP function of PS3, it should be no more problem using it with nevo.
