The Nevo has recently been brought to my attention as very good choice for a custom remote. I have been using (for 8 years) a Pronto TSU 1000 and I am looking to upgrade. I was considering the MX 3000 but was put off by URC's anti-consumer software and support policy. I was considering going to one of the more recent Prontos but .... Nevo. So, how does it compare to the MX 3000 and Pronto? Is the touchscreen the same size? Is the screen resolution as good, better or worse? Is is freely open to customization of the screens (i.e. custom icons, buttons, etc.)? Software user friendly? Also, how does it feel in the hand? (A downside to the MX 3000 appears to be that it is large requiring two hands).

Thanks in advance for all insights.

Nevo is supposed to installer only as well so if that is what you are going on Nevo should be out with URC. There is no software problem with URC, buy/sell from an authorized source, use your serial number and get software. I have not used Nevo yet myself because the kind of problems I have read about here have left me very hesitant to put my name on one of these to sell to a client. Nevo looks like it could be and should be an excellent remote but I think it has been poorly executed.

I had a recent pronto before I moved to the NEVO. Reason was primarily that the pronto could not lean to control my projector (Barco Graphics 808) because the Freq. of the IR signal was too high. So how do they compare in my view?

1. Nevo is more ergonomical than pronto.
2. Screen size is almost the same, but the NEVO is slightly smaller. The resolution is the same however.
3. Pronto allows customizing the whole screen area, NEVO does not allow removal or changing a) the menue bar at the top and b) the button labels at the bottom (except on home page). This eaquals about ~5-10% of total screen area. For me that meant that I had to change the layout of my pronto setup to bring it to the nevo to take account of that.
4. NEVO has some quirks like runaway signals assigned to hard buttons (esp. volume and channel) that seem not to get finally resolved.
5. battery: depending on Wifi or not, but also with IR only, the battery life seems to be less then the Pronto. Also the battery cannot be removed easily.
6. The screen always lights up when a button is pressed. Have not found a way to chang that as the pronto allows for.
7. Software:
Yes it is supposed to be an installer only remote, but if you buy it, then you get the software too (will probably need an upgrade, which can only be done from within the software, i.e. no free downloadable software as with pronto).
Which software is better? I guess that is largely a subjective determination. For an installer setting up many remotes, I guess the nevo software allows for making this a lot quicker (via setting up templates). If you only set up your own one remote and/or if you have a very personalized setup, I guess neither is easier to do. My personal preference would be with pronto-edit though, as it allows more control and is MUCH smaller. Also it does not req. Activesync (NEVO-Sl runs embeded Windows after all) and min. Win2000 as the NEVO does.

8. the Wifi seems to still have problems, but as an IR remote only that is not an issue for me.

9. NEVO has larger built in database

In all: Nevo: sleeker, more economical case
Pronto: better customizablity and more control in Software, not MS only as NEVO, more reliable (I had no hangs, quriks etc in the remote itself while I owned it), exchangable battery, software runs older hardware and on Win98 also.

Still I stuck with the NEVO because it was for me the only touch screen remote that can control my projector and it is better at one handed operation. For that I have to accept the downsides. Best would be of course: Pronto in case of Nevo and it beeing able to control my proj.

just my experience

How about the lighting aspect of it?
