I previously started a thread about this problem, thinking my Nevo SL Li Ion battery had failed. However, I have since determined the problem is with my charging cradle (or at least the problem only occurs when I use the cradle). If I hookup the remote via USB, it charges. However, when put in the cradle, even though the battery icon indicates a charge is in progress, the remote is NOT getting charged.

I tried basic things like cleaning all the contacts on the remote & cradle, making sure the remote was seated properly in the cradle, etc. If I knew it was just the cradle, I'd try to buy another one, but it's such a basic piece of equipment, I'm thinking the problem could be with the remote itself - either the charging contacts or something internal that's preventing charging by that method.

Has anyone seen this behaviour before? Any help/comments much appreciated.

Is the cradle lighting up blue when you sit the remote on it?

Yes. All signs on the cradle and the remote would lead one to believe the remote is actually charging, but it's not. I've tried several times, including leaving it on the cradle all last night with no success.

Since posting this issue this morning, I've had the remote hooked up via USB, and it's now fully charged. My computer (and hence USB cable) is at the other end of my house, so this is going to become a major pain until/unless I get it resolved. Uggghhh...

Any ideas???

You should call your authorized Nevo SL reseller/installer and request an exchange. That is if you purchased the Nevo SL, from an authorized reseller/installer.

If you did not purchase from an authorized reseller/installer, then you are SOL, because Universal Electronics, the manufacturer, will not take it back for repair and likely will tell you to talk with your authorized reseller.

This is just another warning not to purchase from an unathorized reseller. Buyers wll not get any warranty, nor will they be given an avenue for service.

Dave - I fully understand your position in this, and I realize I got myself into this situation. But I find it very unfortunate that individuals like me - early adopters who make technology like the Nevo even more successful by taking a chance and spreading the good word - get penalized after the fact. I know I did not buy from an authorized reseller, but that was only because the 2 or 3 I tried to buy from when the Nevo first became available were unwilling to sell it to me directly. I'm not a novice user - I've been programming my own remotes since I first used a Philips TSU1000, but no one would sell me a Nevo "in the box".

All this being said, I guess I'm going to have to buy a new unit if I can't figure out this charging problem. Can I assume you'd be willing to sell me one directly?

Have you tried to clean the contacts. A Q-tip and rubbing alcohol on both the Nevo and the charger contacts may help. An eraser works too. Don't douse the contacts, just dampen the Q-tip, with an eraser make sure no particles from the eraser remain on the contacts.

Have you put a volt meter across the points on the base to see if your getting voltage out? (I dont know what voltage is supposed to come out however).

Thanks Chris for referring me to the other thread. To answer the questions/ideas posed above, yes, I have tried cleaning the contacts, _both_ with an eraser and then with a swab & alcohol. No change. I have not tried testing the contacts with a voltmeter. However, as posted in the other thread, my remote definitely _thinks_ it's charging, so contact is being made.

What I gathered from the other thread is that no one really figured out why this problem happens. Theories included the software update, the power settings and a possible short in the connection between the battery and the charging contacts. I'm ruling out the first, because I updated my unit a while ago, and this problem only surfaced about a week ago. I'm going to go home and start tweaking the power settings to see if anything different happens. Right now I've got both battery & AC set to shutdown after 2 mins, I think.

Why don't you go to the nearest seller of Nevo and ask if you can use the cradle there and see if it's broke. If so, you'll let it repair or buy a new one. Just a thought..

I've been kind of side-tracked, as I travel a lot, and I'm not home to use the remote every day. However, upon returning from a trip yesterday, it seemed that the remote (which I left in the cradle) charged again. I hadn't done anything to it before I left other than some minor configuration changes and subsequent download from Nevo Studio. Whether or not that resolved the problem, even if only temporarily, I'm unsure. This weekend I'll be monitoring it carefully.

So it does, in fact, look like my remote is charging in the cradle again. Given that I haven't done anything other than download some configuration changes to the remote a couple of times, I would guess the problem has something to do with the software/firmware, and not the hardware. I'll obviously continue to monitor, but not knowing the real cause is somewhat annoying. Oh well...as Dave D'Arche would undoubtedly remind me, this is what I get for not buying from an authorized reseller.
